A Mad Max fan reborn – intro and comments

Post by WastedFuture »

Hello fellow Mad Max fans,

I’m 28 years old (Summer 79’) and live in the suburbs outside of Vancouver BC Canada.

It is pointless and frivolous to list or catalogue all the reasons why I love the Mad Max films… I’m sure they are the same reasons you all love em’ too!

“Hey man, it’s gonna be a Mad Max future you know… “

As usual, I was very into Mad Max movies as a kid. But my interest had slumbered over the years... I was out of the loop and didn't even know the basics. Didn't even think to look for the original Australian soundtrack edition. Up till a few months ago that is… then I finally got the DVD with the original Australian audio track! I now realize just how good this film really is. Everything falls into place now. Absolutely legendary in it’s simplicity and genius. An instant rabid fan has been reborn!

Mad Max - Grim and no nonsense, too close to a probable future scenario for comfort, society hanging on to a semblance of order against the backdrop of inevitable nuclear war.

The MFP dispatch woman trying to instill discipline and order by her monotone recitation of protocols and procedures over the radio… meanwhile up in the Northern Hemisphere God knows what is happening… a limited nuclear war, a slug fest with the Soviets probably, slithering to the brink of annihilation. A few weeks after the time the Mad Max film is set, the world blows itself up, according to the Mad Max book as quoted by another member on this forum.

I found that interesting to say the least. Yet another layer of brooding despair and futility creeps in and settles over the film.

That's a big part of why I loved Mad Max as a kid. It introduced me to the shocking and plausible "other direction" the future could take. The complete opposite future view as the pasty faced Star Trek Next Generation utopias... Non of those spandex wearing brainwashed PC drones dwelling in plastic star ship tunnels, prattling on about morality and prime directives. In their wretched place a Brown dust is now blown on a barren wind, the remains of futures… now wasted. WastedFutures that will never come. Yeah… some futures are better off never happening I say. I'd rather have the last of the V8's than a warp drive to nowhere and alien interbreeding!

So I'll be posting a comment or two now and again around here. Very interesting forum with much to learn!
