Puncturing the radiator

Post by PursuitSpecial »

I know it is just a movie, but if you did drive through a wood fence, and somehow a piece of it broke off and managed to get through the grille and stick in the radiator, don't you think you could go quite a ways before the car lost enough coolant to overheat and seize the block enough to just stall?

... My best bud ... who shall remain nameless to save embarassment... drove 22 miles at 75+ mph , in a 429 powered 1967 Cadillac DeVille convertible, ( a car he named Anne Mae Swasey ) with the radiator cap off before it stalled...

Being as the water is under pressure in the radiator, it would not last long in there with a hole gashed into it. Depending on the ambiant temps of course, you could go for a short while at least until you did damage to the engine (blown head gasket, etc, etc)

... the 429 was a Cadillac engine displacement also.. new for the '64 model year.. the biggest available for the '63 was only 390 cid... I wish it had a Ford 429 under the hood..(*dreams*).. the '67 was a year specific 429 ..

.. '68 was the introduction of the 472

...the early to mid '60's Caddy engines were ALL crapbuckets... just terrible everything.. lousy valvetrain oiling, poorly designed exhaust porting,...and they were supposed to be GM's flagship line... my ass..

You normally see at least 4 mins with no coolant at all in a blow up competition with a holden or ford straight six before they seize.

Not that that's anything to go by Image

Could the overheating also have something to do with the broken fan belt? Shame on me, I can't remember if Max fixed it or not...

by the time she's smashed through the gate with the engine still cold..to the time shes boiled it ,combined with the time its taken mel to run that same distance indicates shes gotten no more than 1-2 km..in a couple minutes..the bikes would have caught up in 1..the van should have gone waaay longer than up the road.

i used to run down white posts in my old hq and none ever turned about mid smash to go through the grill...still..it would have been a shame to blow it up...
