More comments on Flubs

Post by Javelin Guy »

While watching the opening chase of MM2 (Road warrior) over breakfast this morning, I was reminded of the mention of the VW based dune buggy mentioned in Peter's Flubs and Trivia section.

"When Max finds the truck and gets the gas/petrol from the upside down buggy, it

has no engine! You can see the transmission housing with the rod that connects to

the cranckshaft sticking out. "

If you look at the lower left corner of the bell housing, you'll notice that the magnesium around that bolt hole is broken out.

The engine case and transmission case on an air cooled VW are both cast from magnesium. In a crash like that, it's common for the bolts holding Engine and Trans together to either strip out or break the bell housing.

I once forced my dad (A VW mechanic for 25 years) to watch Road warrior with me once, and he commented that he had seen lots of Veedubs broken in a similar manner.

This wasn't a flub, it was realistic film making. (Hehe)

Just after the band of bum marauders are leaving the compound after blonde bum has had half his noggin removed by the boomerang i noticed theres a bloke trying desperately to kick start his bike but to no avail, even once the last of the marauders have taken off and they are loading Wez' boy onto the F100 he can still be seen trying to kickstart it, i often wonder if that was a flub? or as you mentioned (realistic film making) because they would be getting a bit low on mechanical supplies, eg spark plugs, leads etc etc, I would expect some of their machines would have to be running a bit rough!

but still it looked like a flub to me :)

When the Landau is actually seen hitting the dune buggy in the beginning, the dune buggy is not moving.

In The Road Warrior, a minute or two before the tractor-trailer crashes, the right-hand valve

on the tanker can be seen leaking dirt. Why didn't pursuers notice the trailer was leaking?

Most highway warriors, even the fanatic followers of The Humungous, would have run away

from a tractor-trailer leaking gasoline (a flammable and explosive substance) or a tractor-trailer

leaking dirt, a material that does not make internal combustion engines run well. :o)

P.S. Is this error mentioned on the Mad Max Movies FAQ?

SHHHHhhhhhh!!! We weren't supposed to notice. ;>

Here's a more technical flub. The interceptor has no AIR FILTER!!!!!! In those conditions, that'd KILL the motor AND blower. FAST.

I doubt Max could have picked up that feral kid if he really had his arm run over in MM1.

Remember on the mack truck when max pickes him up and over himself into the cab, with his right arm.
