Face the Wheel
Face the Wheel
The New York University Sci-Fi club is doing a kind of re-enactment of Barter Town, and I am in charge of making The Wheel. Though I doubt any deals will actually be broken, it'll be a nice addition to the atmosphere to have it. The problem is that I'm not sure of what all the options were on The Wheel. Can anyone help me out?

Some of the "options" were: Gulag, Hard Labor, Freedom, Death, Aunty's Choice, Forfeit Goods, and Banishment. I'm not sure about 'Bashnishment', but I know I saw the others. Good Luck!

Gulag was a death sentence by sending you into the desert to die. Banishment was just making you leave Bartertown forever.

I pretty sure there's a fairly good shot of it in the movie, where you can see all the options. You might want to watch it with your finger on the pause button.

Here's a consenses on the choices, although it looks like there are too many:
gulag, amputation, forfeit goods, auntie's choice, spin again, underworld, hard labour, banishment, death, freedom.

: : I thought Gulag was banishment...?
: Gulag was a death sentence by sending you into the desert to die. Banishment was just making you leave Bartertown forever.
This discussion got me wondering what the word "gulag" really meant. Until this point I thought it was a word made up for the movie, but I decided to actually look it up in my "Webster's College Dictionary." Here's what it said:
gulag, n (sometimes cap.) 1. the system of forced-labor camps in the Soviet Union. 2. a Soviet forced-labor camp. 3. any prison or detention camp, esp. for political prisoners. [1970-75]
Obviously this doesn't quite mesh with what we saw in the movie, so maybe they did just make it up and coincidentally it happed to really be a word.
