Couple new MM1 flubs...

Post by PursuitSpecial »

Watching Mad Max AGAIN I found a couple more flubs that arn't on Peter's flubs page, and I'm not sure if they have been caught before.

When the Toecutter tells Jesse she has a pretty face and that it would be a shame to loose it, he rubs his hand on his face, and his thumb over his "tatto" which smears upwards.

Also, look at the background where the Holden wagon dies on Jessie, and then look at the background where she gets out of the vehicle and runs away from it. They are two different places. This can be further seen if you look up the road behind the Holden when it comes to a stop. It stops on a much skinnier one lane road, and the movie people have made it seem like a two lane road by painting stripes up the road, but the stripes stop not far off in the distance behind the vehicle.

Two other things I wondered when watching the movie...

One, on the beach, the Toecutter fires a shotgun blast straight up in the air. I've never had the guts to try it, so what are the odds that the shot would come back down on the group of them?

Also, after Goose crashes, that guy Midge comes and helps him with the bike. With just the two of them they are able to lift the KZ1000 into the back of the truck. I'm not sure how heavy one of those things is, but it looks like a big bike, and it can't be light. I wonder if they really could have lifted that thing just by themselves up into the truck?

me and my brother have lifted my zx1000, into the back of our truck a couple times.....and its around 550 pounds............but like ankle said,it probaly would'nt roll;....it would have been harder draggin it out of the field with the wheels sliding, than loading it into the truck...

I'm still waiting for Peter to correct the flub listed in the Flubs/Trivia section for Mad Max 2: the Road Warrior..

"When Max finds the truck and gets the gas/petrol from the upside down buggy, it has no engine! You can see the transmission housing with the rod that connects to the cranckshaft sticking out."

This is not, repeat NOT a Flub. air cooled VW engines are held on to the car by a grand total of FOUR Bolts through the transaxle bellhousing.

The Engine case and the Transxle case ar both made from lightwight magnesium.

It's very common for either the threads in the bolt holes to strip or for the bellhousing to break around the bolts.

If you look at the scene, you can see one of the bolt holes in the bellhousing is broken and another hole has a bolt still hanging out of it.

Of note on the vehicle's transaxle is that it's an old fashioned Swing axle type instead of the newer Independant Rear Suspension (IRS) type.

I certainly wouldn't build a buggy for that terrain with a Swing axle. They tend to be very unstable in lose sand.

Interesting bit of Trivia: The buggy was carrying two dead Kangaroos on it's roof when it crashed. Spotted those while playing the scene in Slow Motion with the intention of seeing where the Engine flew off to.

OK while we're on the subject I too watched MM the other night only this time I watched it on my PC using my spanking new DVD drive (insert appreciative gasp here) I can highly recommned this method since the resolution is brillinat and you can see details otherwise missed if watched from accros the room on your TV.

I digress.

I don't know if this one has been mentioned already but the car Nightrider is driving which eventually crashes into the stacked cars has no engine in it. You can see across the tops of the front wheels and see daylight.

After Goose dows his spectacular flying lesson on the bike you se him tapping the microphone on his helmet. In the foregound you see smoke whisping out of the exhaust from the downed bike. Later a simalar scene shows Goose walking away the smkoe is still drifting out and then turns to flame as whatever they poked up the exhaust to smolder catches fire.

When Goose is pissed off at Johhny being let off he whips out his... wait for it. Truncheon and waves it threateningly, Fifi jumps in and Goose just waves it about a bit before Fifi remembers to grab that wrist and stop him using it.

One little thing I did notice and hadn't before was Mudguts bike. When they pile out of that shack (I guess it's a whore house or such) one fo them does a foreard role, youknow the scene? They get on their bikes and speed off. Mudguts bike has no silencers! Just the downpipes that go under the engine and stop. liken the noise to sitting in a metal 50 gallon drum while someone is outside hitting it with w 4x2 and you'll get some idea of how loud it'd be. No power though, the engine needs a back pressure to work well.

First time ever too I noticed "The Dark One" on Max's car I'd read references to it before but had assumed it was just in the script not the actual film.

Question; Roop and Charlies persuit car has their names on it. Max's yellow Interceptor has Max Rockatansky as well as The Dark One underneath it. Could this be Max's absent partner? or is it because he's alone and drives an Interceptor therefore he is: Max Rockatansky i.e. The Dark One.

Wotchafink?

Anyone noticed the spare tyre on the roof of the SANDMAN as JESSE and MAY try and escape the farmhouse?

Now not only did MAX take that tyre to that garage to be fixed, but they also drove off leaving it behind "hey fella what about ya tyre". - whats that on the roof with their luggage?

Also check out the obvious INTERCEPTOR switch in MAD MAX 2. - MAX pulls up at the GYRO copter site in the original BoB, you can tell cause the back of it is 'jacked up' - showing slight clearance between the wheel and wheel arch, it is also this car as MAX stalks round past the bonnet with the crobar in his hand.

Then as GYRO and MAX are slowly moving over to the BoB, look how low and hunkered down that car is, you can't see any clearance between that back wheel - its clearly the 'Double car'.

Same with the interior of the car, in some shots the original BoB has got that 'caged meshy' package shelf way up the back of the car, DOG hides under it and NATHAN and GYRO when in the car are pretty much just infront of it.

then as MAX pulls up at the GYRO site, look right behind his head the cage is pulled right up behind him - i wonder why they did this obvious huge change.

Goose keeps his nightstick in his hand even after he pushes Johnny down , he was holding it so hard his knuckles were white...but ...when he draws back to crack him that single shot that he gets in, it's gone , adios , no more stick.

I agree, but the bike must have had still enough power to follow the others machines (the silencers are missing during the entire film) and above all ...powerful enough for the Kirks Bridge stunt.
I could probably make it on my own, but I like you kids.
