There once was another .. The late Cal ..

Gifted writer, webmaster, straight "A" literature student, friend, advisor.

Cal came originally from France. She learnt English so she could move to the USA finally ending up speaking seven languages..

Although she never attended a computer class, and self taught in almost every aspect of her vast knowledge Cal for a her final few years she ran the website for the RDU airport. (Raleigh - Durham triangle)

The website still carries the RDU logo she designed.

Twice she traveled to Australia from the USA to visit the Road Warrior film locations..

Her web site always reflected her state of mind, in its final but more confused format it still exists..

Hosted now for free now .. by a truly devoted MAD MAX fan..

Cal herself has been gone for a few years now ... but she is still sadly missed.

i never thought there was any female interest.my ex hated the movie and still i made her go all over england with me to the original car andd adrians fantastic example.needless to say, once she saw the actual car...(indulging now in typical male sexist, sexual phrases on our perception of what happens when a female gets "excited"!) bring on female mad max fans i say! its always nice to share things with the fairer sex, even better to share interests!as you may have already worked out,us boys love our cars.but what we love more is a good woman who loves cars! welcome ladies and enjoy our part of the world as we know it.I know the fellas will keep it clean! Hi 9 Inch ...Ummm..make of what?

This car stuff..? I have always had involved interests.. I was just as involved ..perhaps more so in sport before all this..

OR are you saying what does she or did she make of the Cal connection..

Cal did a lot of work with my pictures and photoshop, actually the genetic fact that she was female never really made all that much difference. But you would almost have to know Cal to have understood that in her mind male-female are world based gender distinctions and thus limiting.. So the sprit/soul .. or if you like to your essence ...what ever you believe in ... your soul if you like, recognizes first and strongest the like minded sprit. On the internet and separated by thousands of miles it was/is possible to operate in a gender free environment.... Cal was a complicated person. She seemed to me to be following a Zen like pathway.. But she did not follow Zen as such. In reality the actual amount of time Cal and I spent in e-mail communication was not all that much.

In fact in her last year of life I getting more involved in the cars and Cal had moved on quite a lot, so we had almost no communication at all.

But it weird when some you had talked about death and dying with, and you knew there fears and views on the subject .. is actually killed.

From the marriage point of view ... well like everyone it was/is the amount of time and money involved that is hard to justify.

Cal's main contribution to me was "Get of your dam butt and make things happen in your life, if you fail ... then you fail, but with no regrets, at least at the end of your life you will not have to wonder why the hell did I not have the guts to try and do that."

Anyhow... Happy to say that our marriage is fine.. (but ha ha ha ...might be better if I would take ballroom dancing classes with my wife) !
Cheers

Hey 9 inch..

1985 .... gosh.. I just got the Beatles in my head.. McCartney singing .."twenty years ago today St Pepper taught the band to play..."

Yea 20 years ago, when that mag came out I was somewhere in the western deserts. I had quit my job in Victoria and headed out into the desert driving a purpose built dune buggy. I did not see the Magazine or naturally the Readers cars section till about a month after the mag came out.

That bloody 20 years went fast... I can still remember taking the picture, I had to use black and white film as that is all "Street Machine" would accept.

Good days of the past.

PS: Yea I am taking the class's.. (well sort of I learnt a few simple dances) two left feet all right... I also did 10 years of martial arts training back in those old days.. Even now you would reckon a former martial arts instructor would have better foot coordination.

Well, my Girl friend sits in the same room with me when I read this forum. Does that count?

I introduced her the the Mad Max films over Christmas after Santa brought me the boxed trilogy set on DVD. Shame they have no specail features just the bog standard films even Mad Max 2 was titled The Road Warrior, obviously a spelling error there.

She thought MM1 was awful, for it's raw violence I suppose, and especially the wife and baby killing. The car/bike aspect of the film just went woosh over her head.

MM2 was much better and had an obviously better storyline. What's with the gay biker in the mohawk?

MM3 was a joke (tempted to agree with her on the latter but watchable nonetheless)
