Roadwar 101

Post by bealewolf »

Hey all MAD MAX fans!

I live in SF and was wondering , where are we meeting or gathering before

driving down the 101?

Im not interested in a cannonball run or an orgy of destruction.

Just getting together ,to be weird together and drive around in our cars will be

enough fun for me.

When I race I go to 280 anyways..

I have a maxxed 69 SS Chevelle.

Karen: I have seen a street-legal dune buggy before. You need to have a windshield, etc. I don't know the details, but I do know they exist.

Bealewolf: I live in Sunnyvale. I haven't decided on a good starting point yet, but I was thinking of somewhere near Pacbell park. If you just weant to get together with fans, I'd recommend meeting everyone at the end of the drive. We'll all have lunch and hang out then.

Id love to be a part of this, id just have to make time to be able to come. Im living in western Washington right now. Id have no problem with bringing a mad max styled vehichle, being a rat rodder everything I own looks like it came straight from the Road Warrior. Id love to bring my stripped, big block, 65 mustang but im unsure if ill have it road legal by then. Though my black primered 53 plymouth would easily make the trip south.

Sounds great Suede.

People are slowly coming out of the woodwork saying they will come.

If you are planning on coming, just e-mail me with a picture of your vehicle and I will put a page together so everyone knows who's coming.

Karol,I'm still a little iffy on coming down or not,but am leaning toward 'yes' if there looks to be more then just two or three people going. It is a nine hour trip for me,so I need to be fairly certain that this can be cool before I make the drive.I have a friend in Sacramental where I can stay, allowing me to drive down on saturday, drive over to where ever we are starting from on sunday morning, and have some good fun.Hopefully this will come togather.Bill

I don't know if you got my e-mail, but so far there have been about 7 people that have shown serious interest. You can see some of them in this thread. And that's not including me, my friends, or the Death Guild.

Things are looking promising. I'm scouting for an end venue, and I'm looking into renting out a rig for the drive.

Give me your e-mail and I'll keep you updated.

I'd go, but I'll be in Australia at that point.

Dune buggys are street legal. At least in California. For some reason I see a lot of them in Sacramento. Of course, by "a lot" I mean, I see a couple of them a month.

Karol, this sounds like the start of a good event,but... what if next year, you expand it to a weekend camping event with a simple "gimic" road rally and maybe not set it up in an urban enviroment. Perhaps somewhere along the border of New Mexico or Texas (Big Bend region looks just like the Road Warrior set) and fewer hassles with "The Man" (aka the Bronze) and less people on the road to interfere and much more desolate! Gimic Rallies are not car races but do lend themselves better to the "feeling" that I think your after. Each participant would have to go over a certain road course and past various checkpoints to receive the next set of directions to the next checkpoint. At each checkpoint you could have them answer Mad Max trivia questions to get the directions and so on. Also a gimic rally is done at or below the speed limit so no troubles with the cops. Also there are plenty of camping places and you could probably arrange for a small showing of the movies at the campground at night to top the weekend off. You could even set up awards for various things like "Best/worst dressed character" or "Best apocolyptic camp" and "Best Mad Max inspired car" and so on.

I would love to come to this year's event but for just a one day event, all the way on the west coast...that's a little far away for to short a time. ;-)

Cheers and good luck!

Step,

I have driven cross-country several times and that area of highway 10 east of El Paso is about the closest thing I've found to Broken Hill.

What you're talking about sounds great, but that would take a massive amount of planning. It would take someone who lived there to plan it.

So if you're interested in doing "Roadwar 10" next year, let us know.

By the way, I am inviting fans to come for the whole weekend if they wish. There is nothing else officially planned for Friday or Saturday, but I'm sure there will be things to do that weekend. We should definitely crash a Saturday night Halloween party. I will be putting up a page soon with info about who is coming so you can check that out too.
