I don,t expect any responseon this one, just think about it....

How does max go to the toilet, does he wipe his butt, how would you keep your body clean in the wasteland, there is no water, almost no fuel...desgusting,but how would you keep yourself clean?

Unlce i expect an answer from you though.

Well, another question you have to look at is not just hygiene, but health issues. For example, eyesight. As most people get older, their eyes start to go a little bit. Max, with his left eye already busted, has to worry about his other eye going bad eventually.

Another thing is bacterial infections from any cuts or deep wounds from life in the Wasteland. Just things like that are things to be concerned about as well.

I always thought about it.

From the beginning, I assumed Max was dirty, and still remained dirty for the rest of the movie (MM2 and MM3). Except some characters like Aunty Entity, Master-Blaster, Dr.Dealgood and probably the Defenders (or even the Waiting Ones --- no shortage of water there, in the Crack) Max is one of those for which water to cleaning up is - and always will be - a LUXURY. I suppose Max is simply dirty, and he learnt to live with it in a pretty easy way. After all, he's a survivor. Eat or die, sorda.

As far as concerned his "smell", I always assumed Max didn't stink at all --- not in the "proper" way the things use to stink. I mean, he doesn't stink as a DIRTY human persona who doesn't care about hygiene, but he does probably like those wild animals who use to roll themself into sand or earth. Thus, his smell reminds earth and sun, not DIRT in the normal point of view. That's really... well, pretty!Image

Isupose Max really would have learnt to live of the land like aboriginies or african tribes. I read somewhere that after a while your hair starts to clean itself with a naturally produced oil and as long as you brush bits out it looks reasonably clean !. Getting wounded is the major worry though unless the aboriginies have taught you to use certain leaves with disinfectant properties.

Still you will never be as clean as is possible now , but at least everyone else smells just as bad :)

Umm, not to be crude, but in the Middle East and North Africa, you never offer your left hand to shake. That's your 'dirty' hand. Even though you wash up with sand.

Having lived in the field for 45-60 days at a time, I can say you get used to it. Everybody stinks at first, but then nobody notices, as you all stink. Then you come home and the wives all wrinkle their noses, dogs howl, etc.

Creature comforts such as handi wipes are looked upon as luxury items, nice to have, but not necessary. Of course, the Army always supplied us with plenty of water for drinking. You can sponge bath pretty quickly and effectively, and rotating your underclothes out for an airing helps. Shaving without water is not a pleasant experience...

Only about two generations ago most people bathed quite infrequently.

In the winter most didnt bathe at all. Hygiene was noticed yet not appreciated. Max's main concern would be shaving. Staph germs would eat him alive in the heat if he shaved too closely. One quality of Millers direction I enjoy is his attention to detail. I noticed in MM2 Mel's hair is obviously cut by a razor or knife. This realism is appreciated.
