Goose z1000

Post by Neobrit »

Thought I had better post seeing as though no bikes have been mentioned for a while .Well my goose z1000 project has stalled due to my z being a wrong z (I`ve got a ltd model ) and the frame is totally diferent from the seat area back . I can not bring myself to take a grinder to it so back to the drawing board .

Has anyone got any info on the history or whereabouts of the original goose z1000`s now ? , (there was one used for the stunts and the other for the closeups like goose`s wild ride, although the stunt bike was pretty ropey even then!)

Bye the way is there any bikes on the Back to the Max vid ?

Cheers

No info, however I just posted a link to a Goose replica video in the general section on the Japanese thread, that you may enjoy.

yes please, would like to see that video as well. The bike looked fairly trashed when Goose rolled the ute down the hill, this would have been the stunt bike presumably. (Slow-mo of the prang would suggest wire wheels - these were also fitted during ute prang scene.) ? No idea what happened to other bike........perhaps it was auctioned as well .

What year model is your LTD ? You should be able to do something with it, the Whitehorse site uses a Zephyr 1100 as its base for a goose replica, and the previous one on this site looked like a J ('81 model).

I know that the front end in the photo is from a Gpz550. Fairing lower is from the Typhoon fairing, has a poxy little pointy bit right at the bottom, nothing like the original fairing, although the shape is the same where the upper and lower sections meet.

work continues (slowly) on my replica. Will post shots sometime.

well, well, well ...

Jim Goose's Z 1000, is a A1 model from 77. The first Z 1000 anyway. the engine is a slightly modified Z 900 (76) motor and the frame is bonded. It has 1015 cc and around 85 hp. A 1135 cc with over 120 hp kit is still available today. The bike comes with 3 disc brakes instead of a drum brake at the rear wheel. Wire spokewheels are still present, but interchangeable with more expensive aluminium wheels (see the kwaka).

The A1 and A2 models are vey hard to find and the most beautifulls ever![/font]
I could probably make it on my own, but I like you kids.

KZ1000's! What nice little bikes.....

A friend of mine, by the name of 'Scooter' (who, back in the day, bore a striking resemblance to Bubba), has a black '79 Z1r 1000, named 'Zilla. A bit rough (both of them), it has a wonderfully mean growl that is missing from bikes made after the early '80's. Stock cams but the exhaust is little freer and louder. Bought with 12,000 miles, currently it is awaiting a rebuild after 20,000 miles in his care.

Somewhere I have pics of us on it at a convention looking suitably disreputable.........

heh Bubba Fat - do you know what the modifications were ?? my replica is based on the 77 z1000 A1, have heard that goose's bike used a slipper clutch as well, that is why the clutch cover looks a bit odd.

Bonded frame - do you mean braced ? this is the best mod that can be done to any early 1000, the later ones had thicker frame tubes and (slighlty) more rigid bracing. Later models can still be improved with bracing.

All A1's sold in Oz had triple discs, wire wheels standard ( there was an mag wheel option, a few zeds getting around here still have this option fitted, including mine.)

DM - would like to see the photos of your friends z1R - how do you post them on this site ?? Have some of my own that must go on shortly.

Hi kwakka 9,

I spoke about the first 1000 in general and its modifications, compared with the 900 and not about Goose's Kwaka.

About the slipper clutch.

I have no idea about it, but you're right, the clutch cover looks odd.

I'm not sure if the kwaka changes in the engine. It has the original 26 mm carburetors and the air cleaner is also at its place. Only the exhausters are different. (Unknown brand, do you know more?)

About the frame:

I meant, reinforced.

I have to admit that Goose's bike has no visible frame modifications, except for the Footrests.

All A1's sold in THE WORLD had triple discs.

I had badly expressed myself. I spoke of the 900.
I could probably make it on my own, but I like you kids.

yes, the z1000 was a slightly improved version over the 9. Same size carbies as you say, tiny 26mm that would struggle to breath life into a 600 never mind a 1000. The slipper clutch is a new one to me, only heard that a few months ago. The slipper clutches I have seen look sort-of smiliar, but have a few detail differences. This will be a hard part to source i think. Back in the days when MM was filmed , the big Z was the fastest rig on the road, so the 180-200kmh seen on the speedo would indicate a good, unmodified (engine) example of this model. Exhausts are available here in Oz, Tranzc 4-2, but these are not the cross-over pipes used in the movie. I am unaware of anyone making replica examples of these. The Tranzac exhausts are very similiar in overall look to the goose pipes, they do come with baffles ( is that the sound of a grinder I hear ??)

Have not spotted any frame bracing either, i will be bracing mine - these things get rather flighty at speed without additional frame supports Image those rear set footpegs would be so uncomfortable for anything over 10 minutes in the saddle, no wonder goose was happy to 'step' off the bike every now and then .....

Haha! That Goose ...

By the way,

I have some good pictures of my Z 1000 and want to post them into the forum, but have no web adress.

Is there another possibility?
