What could be Max's new vehicle?
In the 1970's, powerful two door musclecars were the most popular vehicles. By the mid-1980's (MM3 time-frame) monster trucks were the rage. MM1&2 had the two door Interceptor, while MM3 had Max in a monster-tired desert truck.
What will Max drive in the new millenium? The 1990's saw the spawning of ricers and powertrucks, neither seem likely to show up in MM4.
Then what could be Max's new ride?

He's probably gonna end up with a dune buggy type deal. I'd prefer to see another early 70's muscle car.

All heavy manufacturing had long since stopped by Thunderdome. Todays vehicles would never have been produced. The only vehicles available are those we have seen, '70's vintage Aussie iron or homemade buggies. I'd like to see identifiable models, but as long as the film revolves around mobility, I'll be happy.

I could see something along the lines of dirt track cars. Whatever mechanicals you have around assembled into a frame made of scrap and a body owing much to someones skill with a torch and sledgehammer.
Although society had fallen apart and industry had stoperated, there would still be a tremendous amount of 'stuff'. Not neccessarily automotive. And the technological base would still have a jump start compared to having no knowledge of what HAD been done.
To have the complete and utter freedom to design, build, and drive with zero restrictions! You should see a WIDE range of 'vehicular design philosophy'. Not just the latest car fad reinterpreted to 'date' the movie.

A few years ago, when a friend and I had heard there might be a Mad Max tv series, we were trying to guess what it would be like. One of our ideas was that they would go back to the beginning (or even before!) and tell the whole story, but updated. Newer cars, newer technology. As the series progressed, it would take on a darker, gothic-industrial-tribal tone. Even more dismal than the movies. The idea of current hot-rods/streetracer/touring car/rally/police cars slowly being stripped back and modified even further away from what they started as has alot of appeal. And as much as I dislike 'The Fast and the Furious' type racer wannabe's, I have to admit the 70's was full of the same stuff. I mean, c'mon, a 59-60 Chevy with mags, hood pipes, a crazy (and not too pretty) paint/interior and a 6 cyl? The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Except the old cars weren't plastic jap toys and could last forever if you took care of them.

I'm afraid i have to agree with the notion that it's probably gonna be all THUNDERDOME VEHICLE orientated, unrecognisable frames and junkers, only cause thats the direction the time-line is going in, who knows how many years later it's gonna be, but safe to say, ALL the fuel is gone now (cept whats still underground), and i reckon all the REAL cars are gonna be gone too, and if not gone, then they'll be modified so heavily we probably won't be able, to recognise them.
By modified i don't mean THUNDERDOME sh*t, i mean like the INTERCEPTOR in part 2 ya know tanks for long distances, or the meshing over windscreens of the towtrucks to stop rocks and sh*t, that kind of thing, which i don't mind too much.
But as obvious as it sounds i want FALCONS back, it may sound repetitive and tired, and i know most people want it as different as possible (and in a way i want that too), but it's just a car, it won't change the story much.
I used to have this idea of max wandering round the wastelands on foot, and i don't know what part of the movie but at some point, he comes across an old barn or cave or something, with an EX BRONZE living in it, with an immaculate conditioned PURSUIT SPECIAL BLACK ON BLACK, all glistening and new. He's managed to just keep this thing, like new all through the holocaust, i don't know why or how or where you could fit it in, but sjit man wouldn't that be cool as hell, the guy could die or something, and max could grab it and tear off into the sunset...
