LOL the MGM DVD as I noted on fanres, is already a shit doctored fake mono mix from the 5.1.

Your guy is just a creep spreading fake news.

The Warner DVD or original Pal VHS with australian mono or any Australian VHS mono will show your guy is full of it.

This release has all the hallmarks of being the "ultimate, definitive version" long sought after by purists like me, so if it turns out the UHD version has mono audio that is simply downmixed from the 5.1 and not the original original Australian mono, then that would be a big disappointment. I mean, why go through all this trouble to produce a definitive release and then fuck it up by using a shit version of the audio track? I hope it isn't true because I don't expect another release to correct the problem (if there is one).

Don't worry, it's not the case. They used the original, proper and legit aussie mono audio track.
No added effects at all.
"Mad Max" doesn't need a new release.
Also, the picture quality is stunning.

There is one huge omission in audio which was VERY obvious when the DVD came out...
When Max is dragging Johnny the Boy , on the DVD there is no Johnny the Boy going off when Max's is dragging him by his ankle.

2nd is the VERY CRAP explosion sound effect on the DVD at the end which is different to the VHS.

I cant play the VHS tape any more as i no longer have a player. But these two moments stood out as having the audio omitted/ changed when the DVD first came out..
We are 100% snafu....

You're right.

About the aussie mono track of the UHD release:

1- Johnny's lines have been restored.

2- The added effect of the explosion is missing. Thank God.

It's the original aussie mono track.

Spaceman Doug from blu-ray.com forum:

I managed to locate a 1985 Australian broadcast of this movie which obviously utilizes the original mix, and guess what?

turns out we were right all along, all of the sound effects that people claim are missing were never there to begin with and here's actual visual proof of it, I posted a few samples from this broadcast in this video, the first clip is to show it's from a TV broadcast (yes the Superman theme was in the recording added by the station who aired this) and the last clip I put to prove that this recording does in fact have the original Aussie dialogue

but here I hope you enjoy this sample video I put together, I did no editing whatsoever to these clips (I even left it in its PAL speed up) other than putting them together in this video just to try to prove things further that Kino's 4K release does in fact have the proper mono track

I also give permission to anyone reading this to share this video wherever you like.

The plot thickens! However this means the australian TV broadcast (I think there are a couple more of them on the internal organ) don't use the correct mix as it's missing sounds.

There's no way all the foreign dubs would all have the same sounds too, but not the original.

There are three possibilities:

- There was like The Terminator, a domestic mix and an international mix, the latter being the most widespread.

- There wasn't, and the TV version and the stems used for the remix, come from an unfinished version of the mix. Maybe because they couldn't find the original stems, as this film as long history of misled elements. So they grab the only version they could find.

- All the foreign dubs were recut from the original US mix, which can't be because they each have unique EQ that is consistent all the way through.

So you can ditch the third. That leaves the two first options. As the dubs all have the original sounds, I believe the TV mono and the remixes and this latter new downmix or whatever that is, are probably unfinished versions of the mix due to misled or mistagged or misfiled elements.

I hope that helps.
