Jolyon,
These are my points:
1- You're an excellent director. A truly excellent director.
2- The videoclip made my days during that period! I was working as "civilian" for an Institute - skipping Army recruiting (I'm Italian, you know). I remember the first time I watched it I suddenly thought: "f**k! Can't believe it...Can't believe IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!! "
You know, I'm a MAD MAX addicted, I built up an huge site on MM3 (MAD MAXED) and everything related to my hero is... weeeeel WELCOMED !
I remember how much I was excited watching the Black'n'Black in action, the wonderful stunt driving, the amazing pacing of the clip, the PURETONES (!!!!!) and that wacko Max-clone with blonde hair and a stoopid expression on the face!
I also noticed the writing on the Bank... "Bank of Australasia" - genius !!!!!!!!!!!
Great stuff, man, great stuff. I say a big "Thank you".
See ya!

Hi Jolyon
Loved the video
Any specific reason for the promo for over here being done as a mad max homage?
Sam
They should have had one of your radios in the cars too for that authentic look!

Hi Jolyon
What a fluke that I found your entry, I never tick for email reply on mail (as it clogs up the mail box) but somehow this one must have been ticked by me ages ago. And I recieved notification that you had replied.
Anyhow as I said I really enjoyed your clip, the angles, the distance and perspective, even the "feel" was very Mad Max, I am sure that quite a few people since have tried to capture that "feel", but you got it ... an excellent job ... congratulations. It will be interesting to see how it goes in the USA, very well I expect.
Anyhow if you do get to do any work like this in the future myself and Grant are happy to help. Like I said earlier I will work for free, and any parts we can loan, supply and fit, then remove after the shoot and take them back with us.
I am sure the entire filming is very complex, but keep us in mind all the same.
Cheers

cheers

The next video should have a Brittney Spears look-alike playing the Warrior Woman. Only for the tanker shot, though. And Toecutter's gang chasing the Backstreet Boys or N'sync down the two lane asphalt. Shot of a shoe and bouncing bottle of hair gel... Feel free to use any of this silliness...
So when should we flood the TRL request lines for Addicted to Base?

I'm looking forward to this. Could you add a note to this topic once they are up please?
... I shoot the sequel next month.
Do you mean another Puretone vid without a MM reference, or do you really mean a sequel to the "Addicted to Bass" clip?
...On the EPK you can see the 2 other camera angles we shot on the caravan exposion.
Is there a hires version of the EPK available anywhere? The "high" version on that website is about 4.5MB, and not very good resolution.
Thanks for posting here. It is very interesting to get the background story behind the clip!![]()

Lads, sorry for the delayed response time. We're right in the thick of it.
First up right off the bat- thank you all for the kind words about 'Addicted'. It was the most fun I've ever had on a gig and has recieved the most amazing response from an audience- which is ultimately what we do this kind of stuff for.
The great thing about you guys is that you are the true hardcore fans- I might have been able to pull a swifty on the english kids - but not you guys. I'm truely blown away by your unexpected comments!
The coolest thing though is hearing the feedback from original crew. I hear it second-hand sometimes and its trippy...
Sam- The Mad Max homage is something I've always wanted to do- I LOVE that film. Watching the Nightrider spitting out rock'n'roll lyrics as he races out of control down a country road- Why hadn't somebody homaged it before? I had the idea tucked away in a file for 5 years waiting for an appropriate track and budget. After doing Australia in '98 "Addicted To Bass" was picked up for the release in Europe by Sony UK in 2001.
As Josh Abrahams (Puretone) & Amiel (vocalist) were local, they asked me to throw an idea at it. All I had to say was "Mad Mad & V8's". The track was fat like a V8- the're even the sound of a car door in the album cut. Mad Max is a successful Aussie export. Just like the track.
Tiziano- Thanks dude- Glad you noticed the "Bank of Australasia" . I spent a day driving 150Kms looking for regional bank signs- and then spotted that on the Sebel Townhouse building- 1km from the office...
Tell me did you see the clip in Italy? I was in Positano in September. The small cars- the tight & winding roads. I was holiday but all I could think about was chase sequences. Talk about the Italian Job II!
And thank you Gordon (and Grant) a truely wicked and generous offer. I'm just blown away with your vibe and enthusiasm. If only I'd tapped into this site sooner!
Which brings me to the new one. Whilst shooting the last Puretone Zev and I were lamenting the size and the bulkiness of the XB's that we had. "Next time we'll do it with something small & zippy!".
I hate to dissapoint but it less Mad Max 2 and more the Italian Job. Post Mad Max the best chase sequence around in my book is Ronin. So for me this job's going to be a study in practical mounted cameras, built up environments & no tracking vehicles to slow the proceedings down. This will be my third car chase for the calendar year so I'm determined to make it rock.
Ric- I only found the EPK online a couple of days ago- that's the only version I know at present. When I get a chance I'll compress it in Quicktime and whip it up on the site- with a high resolution version of the original mix edit. And then I'll let you know on the here.

MTV Italy aired the clip 345 times per day!

The Italian Job... what? I don't know it... probably I only know his Italian title. Surely. Was the movie with VITTORIO GASSMAN? If it's so, we know it as "IL SORPASSO".
Let me know about my site... your response is precious!

Hey Uncle
You must know the film...
Michael Caine is in it
It's about a bank heist in Rome (i think)
Lots of Mini's going through the streets, down stairs, throught the sewers etc
Ends up with the bus hanging over the cliff..........
Don't know the Italian title though
