Max's jacket and trousers from MM1 to MM2

Post by Uncle Entity »

So, all in all:

In-universe, is Max supposed to wear a new, different MFP jacket-type in "Mad Max 2"? One which he modified as he wished?
Or is it supposed to be the same jacket from MM1, just modified to look like a marauder/(road) warrior?

And what about the trousers?

So I've given this some thought, and I'm thinking that (in-universe) it's meant to be the same jacket.

I think it may be the same jacket because it has his MFP ID number riveted to it, and it's unlikely that Max would have the machinery necessary to rivet his badge to a new jacket.

As for the trousers... I have no idea haha. They're probably the same, as I've found it's weirdly difficult to find leather trousers cut in that pattern, with no seam above the knee.

Yeah. I guess Max removed the MFP shoulder pads and modified the jacket the way he needed.
I guess that, "in-universe", it is supposed to be the same jacket. Makes sense.

I say its supposed to be the original jacket and the biggest reason for this is the missing sleeve. As mentioned the removal of the sleeve most likely took place soon after the events of MM1 where Max eventually would have had his wounds treated and in situations like the one Max was in with his arm broken and bone more than likely exposed (As per evidence of the blood running down his arm) the doctors or whoever treated him would have cut the sleeve off to treat the arm. So, if Max did change his Jacket, its unlikely he did it and cut off a sleeve himself. Unless his original jacket was completely cut off his body (Possible) and Max got a new jacket to wear while his arm was in a cast and he cut the sleeve off himself to wear. But I doubt the later.

Its plain to see.
Thats also why the interceptor is the same interceptor even though its got a different paint job.

It seems like Miller is almost deliberately referencing these little disregards for absolute visual continuity when he just blatantly has Bruce Spence play two different, yet similar, main characters in 2 and 3.
Its almost as if he's telling us that he's speaking in legend or mythology, and the details aren't really the point.

Agreed. Sounds plausible.
