A question about the 2001/2002 concept of Fury Road.

Post by BRC1974 »

I don't know if this question has been asked and answered before.
If the movie had have been made around the year 2000 with Mel Gibson and been set after MMBT then what car would Max have been driving when the War Boys captured him at the beginning? Another vehicle? Or Would George Miller have still put the Interceptor in it?
Sorry if it's a silly question.

The comic books explain that question.

Basically, Max would have rebuilt his Interceptor after MMBT, but given the limited resources and the milage on parts his 'new' interceptor would be a hunk of shit. Max would be a complete mess too, in much worse state than we first saw him in the movie. I saw one of those early panels and Max was talking to himself like a crazy person, breaking down in tears etc, a complete mess.

There WERE Rumours of an Interceptor or two being built before filming was cancelled.

They in fact did build three Interceptors before the first attempt at filming in Namibia in 2003.

After the movie fell over, 2 Interceptors were sold off in Africa and 1 came back to Australia and was put in storage. That is the one we ultimately saw in the movie as the hero car.
Another Interceptor was built for driving scenes and was later equipped with a catapult - that's the one we see roll over in Fury Road.
There was also a 3rd Interceptor which was a non-running roll-over rig made to look the part in case the first roll over stunt didn't go as planned. Since the stunt went well the first time around, they didn't have to use the stunt car. Not sure what happened to it, but it was really run down and rusty so I think it went into the crusher.

BTW all interceptors we saw in the movie were 302 XB Fairmonts :D

A catapult, ey? Interesting!

Here's what I want to know... you know how that car from the earlier shoot was sold to a member of the public who then crashed it and was killed? What car was that?!

I kinda like this and wish they'd stuck with it.

I'm looking through my conversations with the crew about this because I'm pretty sure someone explained to me what went down. If I remember correctly it wasn't because the car was unroadworthy but it could've been a drunk driving accident. I'll go out on a limb and say it wasn't any of the Falcons but I'll have to dig a little to be sure.

Ok so with that accident what happened was that in 2003, 3 months into preproduction Fury Road was cancelled and some of the vehicles were sold locally.

One of those vehicles - a buggy - rolled in the dune killing the driver. That's why Warner Brothers wanted all the vehicles destroyed.

That's what I got from Andrew.
