This thread was linked on the Mad Max Facebook group.
I'm just bumping it so anyone on the forums can see it and read the original script. Fascinating stuff and fills a few gaps and questions I had about Road Warrior.
Mad Max 2 ending.

Re: Mad Max 2 ending.
From a story point of view I think there would have always been a desire to link Max to the Lone Wolf in the conclusion. Max himself is the lone wolf who beat the Alpha and Beta of two rival packs, only able to do so because he's riding that fine line of madness between human and animal.
From a logistics point of view it only just fits and I agree that, while it feels just right as a story ending, it feels a little disjointed when you think about it.
It's worth keeping in mind that a lot of writers/directors start with that end image in mind and work their way toward it. I could be that it was shot before final changes, it could be that it's an issue of editing, or it could be a case of a director passionately/stubbornly sticking to his artistic vision.

I'm assuming Max and Gyro had to retrace the Battle to get to the rendezvous with the compound survivours at dusk . I'm pretty sure the lone wolf was the only vehicle not majorly damaged in the chase and would therefore make an obvious scavenging choice for Max . I just wonder why the surviving Gang members didn't pick it up as the turned around and retraced the battle ahead of Max and Gyro.
Re: Mad Max 2 ending.
The whole point of RoadWarrior is that Max takes out the alpha and beta leaders from the pack of marauders. That's why the gang members are shown not attacking him at the end but instead limping away defeated. He's the biggest and baddest warrior in the wasteland and gets to pick his spoils. It's echoed again at the end of Fury Road where, despite being massively outnumbered by the population of the Citadel, Furiousa is considered the new leader because she has slain the existing one.mahenoguy wrote:I'm assuming Max and Gyro had to retrace the Battle to get to the rendezvous with the compound survivours at dusk . It is indeed a bit of a logistical leap, but it does make sense from the standpoint of the story. The important thing is not to look at the Marauders as rational people but instead as ferals who fear whomever they see as stronger.

I agree. I had a quick look at that group and they only had a few interesting pictures, that's all. The discussions/comments are pointless crap.roadwarriormfp wrote:Sorry but i wouldnt bother with that group.AquaCola wrote:http://www.facebook.com/groups/MADMAXGROUP/?fref=ts
