Mad Max 2 - the mystery cars

Post by tehCal »

Anyone got any behind-the-scenes photos of the Marauders' almost-unseen Holden EH Sedan? It only appears at the very back of the Humungus speech scene. Black, with bright red wheels and seats. Unfortunately screenshots from the film don't give any detail.

I'm also wondering about a few other vehicles. The Charger and the Torana are both notable for appearing repainted and redressed to give the impression that there are two of each -- most fans know that the Charger is sometimes painted tan with "Force 10" logos on the doors and a red scoop, but during the retrieval of the Mack truck appears grey with a red stripe, a tan bonnet with a grey scoop, and an entirely different front end (different grille, different bumper without lamps).

But nobody seems to point out that the Torana goes from being painted black during the Humungus speech, with no bonnet and a big lamp on the grille, to being painted grey with a red stripe similar to the Charger, complete with horns and lights on the roof (seen in a couple of shots during the final chase).

Does anybody have any images of these rarer cars? Or any info from the crew about them?

That's the one! I was advised on here that it is a Holden EH Sedan.

Here are some pictures of the Torana as well as an illustration done by the late Steve Funnell.

Thanks man! Do you have any photos of the Charger with the different paint job / front end?

And does you have any full-car photos of the Torana or the EH?

I don't recall the Valiant Charger ever having a different front end. I unfortunately do not have any pics of the Torana or EH. The only other pic I have of the EH is in this screen cap:

It definitely had a different front end, you can clearly see it in the sequence where it has a different paintjob (the shots where it pulls up alongside the Mack and is rammed offroad into the black Dodge tow truck). Completely different grille that almost looks painted on, missing the lamps on the bumper, and in fact the entire bumper is gone -- there is only a bare metal frame instead.

I have a screenshot at home, I'll post it when I can. Just hoping for a clearer behind the scenes photo of that one though.

Here you go Bad Cop:

That's opposed to the Force 10 version which we all know has this front end:

You can see other differences, such as the obvious paintjob change, no side mirrors on the top version, etc.

also the front 'spoiler' is missing bits (the frame is still there).
i'm pretty sure it is the same car without the Force 10 logo. i'm going to guess they rebuilt the car after it was firebombed so they could re-shoot the scene where it crashes during the truck delivery sequence?
