FURY ROAD's Oscar chances? 10 OSCAR NOMINATIONS!!
Re: FURY ROAD's Oscar chances? 10 OSCAR NOMINATIONS!!
It won for editing, production design, costumes, make-up & hair, sound effects mixing, sound effects editing. It lost cinematography and director to The Revenant, visual effects to Ex Machina, and picture to Spotlight. So in all, 6 wins on 10 noms. The Revenant got only 3 wins on 12 noms.

Did it win the most Oscars out of any other movie? Did any other ones get six or more?

Fury Road was the biggest winner with six. Sad that George wasn't recognised in the best director category, would have been a perfect night if he had (didn't ever think it was in with a chance for best picture).
That said if you had told me a year ago - when there was quite a lot of uncertainty here - that Fury Road would not only be brilliant but be one of the most well received films of all time, I would have been flabbergasted.
I am now hoping that Warner's will ride the wave of its success by releasing a special edition bluray (and limited cinema run) with the fabled black and white version...although the slightly confusing and disturbing Warner/Miller rumours that keep popping up on this forum have me worried.
Anyway...a huge congratulations to all involved...you made my 2015 and continue to make me smile in 2016.

Yeah, fingers crossed it helps grease the wheels of future Mad Max films!

I'm not surprised it got a bunch of technical awards. The actual oddsmakers correctly predicted who would take home the Oscars for best director and so on.

ummmm that isnt what you said earlier today...

Currently the odds are well stacked against Fury Road winning an Oscar. The best chance is George Miller getting best director, but the clear favorite is Alejandro Iñárritu for Revenant.
Don't get pissed if your favorite doesn't win. Instead try to enjoy watching Chris Rock berate white people. And Joe Biden will be there, too! It's not like the Oscars are about movies or anything.
We are 100% snafu....

Yeah, I didn't think about the technical awards and the oddsmakers barely covered them. Who remembers the winner for best editing or costume design in ten years? Besides diehard cinephiles and industry people. George Miller deserved best director but the clear favorite won.

Yup. You see McCarthy and Iñárritu there along with a bunch of salty people just giving a total lack of respect to Beavan but she went up there like a boss and had a great speech so fuck 'em.biolumen wrote:Snobs reacting poorly to Beavan? Not many are applauding.

So The Revenant had the most noms with 12 and winning only 3 with Fury Road at 10 noms and winning 6. The thing that irks me is that how they presented the show this year was they were going to start with the "genesis of a film" and follow from there with the first category was Original Screenplay. So you have Fury Road winning all the major production ones: Production Design, Costume Design, Hair and Make Up, Sound Effects Editing, Sound Mixing and Editing with everyone of the winners going up there and thanking George, so at this point the Academy has just recognized because of the most wins of the night that Fury Road was the best made movie but when you come to Director and Picture it's given to two totally different films.... What?
That shit is just beyond stupid. Seems like they need to get rid of Best Director or Picture because it makes no sense to award someone a award for outstanding direction for a movie but then don't even acknowledge their movie to be THE Best Picture of the night. Utterly stupid.
Sorry for the rant but even though I knew Fury Road had a slim chance the fact that it actually won the most Oscars of the night blew my mind and the final award winners for Director and Picture made absolutely no sense. Still, Mad Max: Fury Road is a winner of 6 Academy Awards. Who the fuck would of predicted that?

Re: FURY ROAD's Oscar chances? 10 OSCAR NOMINATIONS!!
Fury Road is just a movie and the Oscars is just an awards evening.
Six technical awards is better than nothing. The rebooted Mad Max has proven its relevance and viability within the current market. Those who loved Fury Road can sit back knowing the franchise is in a great position to continue along the same lines.
As for Beavan seemingly being shunned, it would appear the footage has been taken out of context. Either way, good for her.

We were all shocked when it was even nominated, then it goes onto win 6 beating Star Wars and the Revenant in so many areas.DGSimo wrote: Still, Mad Max: Fury Road is a winner of 6 Academy Awards. Who the fuck would of predicted that?
I think it would have been a bit much to win best picture and director aswell but I've no idea how the oscars even work.
Hopefully this kicks WB into gear and they give George a big bag of money and a ticket to Namibia again.
