No they aren't backed in a political corner. It's WB's money and they can spend it to make whatever movie they damn well please. Anonymous internet feminists and other reactionary "fans" have no say whatsoever in the direction of the next film. Last I checked Charleze Theron hasn't even signed on. Hell, they can make it about a talking two headed lizard if Miller and WB agreed that's where they wanted to go.MWFV8 wrote:
WB are certainly backed into a political corner right now; they can't turn their back on Max but they need a Furiosa too, in some form. Plus they have set Max up for a prequel with his flashbacks.

Well I think they are. I think they'll get a lot of flack if they don't have a strong female protag in some form somewhere.

And what little flack they get will amount to nothing. You're talking about a particular band of whiny babies who are as irrelevant as the "No Mel, No Max" group. They are as irrelevant as the idiots complaining about a black stormtrooper in new Star Wars or those who said Jurassic World is misogynistic. These are people who think of themselves as more important than they really are. Which is to say they aren't the least bit important to anybody, especially filmmakers. It's about dollars first. If the movie is good it doesn't matter if there's another female lead or none at all. The masses will flock to it and they don't care about politics.

Bear in mind "strong female protag" doesn't necessarily mean another Furiosa. Just having any female character who has a compelling character in it would make most women who enjoyed Fury Road happy - Auntie Entity would have been an excellent example of such a character had Thunderdome not been such a mess.MWFV8 wrote:Well I think they are. Amongst my friends and social circles, Fury Road was a major hit; having a story line that didn't patronise women added a lot to the box office numbers in that regard.

You may be right. But I'm not as 100% certain as you are. I think a lot of female moviegoers may be turned off. You do make a good point about Jurassic World though.Mad Max RW wrote:And what little flack they get will amount to nothing. Yeah that's what I was suggesting. It doesn't have to be Furiosa.Turbofurball wrote:Bear in mind "strong female protag" doesn't necessarily mean another Furiosa. Did those who thought it was misogynistic go and see the movie, and if they didn't, did WB even notice? (it hasn't been a flop because of it)Mad Max RW wrote: or those who said Jurassic World is misogynistic.

More to the point, are fans clamouring for another Jurassic movie? One will be made, and then it'll be marketed out the wazoo and probably make another boat load of money, but they're two films that have very different target audiences - for Mad Max, getting positive press on a feminist front would (and has) make a difference.aussie muscle wrote:Did those who thought it was misogynistic go and see the movie, and if they didn't, did WB even notice? The Mary Sue has continued to cover stories regarding Fury Road, and would be all over sequel news, for instance.

Nope, they never saw it. In fact, on this very forum one of them admitted to it and continues the facade despite being exposed for their dishonesty. The vast majority of the population, filmmakers, moviegoers, etc., don't care about sad meaningless hijacked "social justice" bullshit. But it doesn't stop them from infiltrating practically every discussion about anything imaginable. I only see lonely, sick and depressed people latching onto the easiest and dumbest bandwagon that seemingly justifies their petty existence, then using the internet "safe space" to vent their phony frustrations.aussie muscle wrote:Did those who thought it was misogynistic go and see the movie, and if they didn't, did WB even notice?
