If Fury Road Is So Good

On the topic of modern and old action editing. The other day I decided to go through Netflix and watch a bunch of action scenes I've not really seen before. I think I lasted about 10secs in Fast And Furious 6 before I couldn't take any more. Yet I sat through the car chase in French Connection completely captivated.

When I watch MM1 I find myself fast forwarding all the way through the holiday by the sea part in the middle , and after Fury Road some of the stuff in MM2 seems comical and almost a parody of itself it has dated IMO , I cant even watch BTD its sickly kiddie scenes and lack of car action annoy me

Some one had posted previously they saw younger folk walk out of MM1 during the same part when it was screened recently at cinemas

During one screening of Fury Road there were some guys who were what they used to call " spastics " or mentally challenged sitting in the row behind me , one poor fella sounded like he was actually strapped to the front of the cars on the screen , he sighed and hyper ventilated throughout the whole movie while his carer kept asking him if he was ok , it was quite funny as this fella hung in there for the ride lol

People have different tastes , I just find the title of this post a bit of a taunt and really if your kids didn't like it I don't give a shit and shouldn't have to offer an explanation why that is so

I'm with you on the Thunderdome thing. The kids ruined it for me. Funny - the kid was one of the better things about RW.

I was in high school when Mad Max came out. Everything about it just seemed so alien - we'd never seen anything like it. The weird overdubbing with the radio dee jay voices... the cars that looked sort of American, only backwards and not... the odd dialog... bizarre police theme... the creepy gangs... I don't think that feel could be recaptured now, and I can see how a modern, internet connected kid who has seen nothing but CGI sploder films would find that boring. It's like watching Dirty Harry after decades of ever more extreme cop shoot 'em up movies. DH seems slow by comparison, but it had something the new films lack. Kids would probably prefer the latter.

Funny about the mentally challenged guys... a questionable movie choice for them. 2 hours of sensory over-stimulation.

It doesn't make anything more appealing to me either. For what it's worth, I don't the hell we got from those pessimistic test screening reports to expecting Oscar awards for best film. But either way, there's members on this forum who saw Fury Road multiple times a day, multiple days of the week, and feel seeing it was the best day(s) of their lives. The movie has had tremendous impact, and that's always going to cause what looks like a backlash.

Interesting, the chase from The French Connection is one of the few classic car chases I find really boring. Conversely, Vanishing Point (another film like Fury Road, which is almost entirely one big car chase) is still a lot of fun to watch

This is what I have said before , when MM2 came out there had been nothing like it and it left an impression of lotS of people , after that movie and its myriad of clones and the many post apocalyptic movies in modern times , nothing is ever going to have the same bite as MM2 , so we get a lot of its nothing ( Fury Road ) like MM2 from the older crew , younger fans still arent as shocked and quote Fallout and other films but still are impressed with the live stunts

As my girlfriend will attest, I get *very* into movies. First time watching Fury Road, for me on my own in a big cinema with ear-splitting sound, I was holding my breath and tensed up for a lot of the movie ... maybe that means I'm special too

I'd be curious to know what you thought of the (brief) chase in Haywire. It's slow and simple, but very realistic ... I wanted more when I first saw it, but on reflection it's one of my favourite bits of film.
