Haven't the comics, endorsed by George Miller, resolved all these issues like whether Thunderdome occurred or not, and accounted for the presence of the interceptor??

Yes, but it seems that since a lot of people hated the comics, they refuse to incorporate them into the canon. Personally I thought they weren't half bad and liked the timeline they set up.

MM2's narration seems to indicate otherwise though, that the Great Northern Tribe was able to escape to a place "far beyond the reach of men on machines" and the Feral Kid was allowed to live to an advanced age. However, we know that eventually -something- happened to the Gyro Captain. Perhaps he went out on some sort of scouting/supply run and was captured?

To be honest they just made more issues with the timeline and world. George himself has even stated that its not a continuation, more a return to the world of Max but under different circumstances which contradicts the two Max comics. The comics make sense going by George's original plan with Mel and Thunderdome looking warboys that you can piece together from the Art of Mad Max.

I'm just joking about how the Gyro Captain's head ended up as a trophy on Nux's car.
