Ultimately that's true, no argument there.Artemis Flow wrote:There is no justification for downloading pirated copies.
Hah, tell me about it. I'm in a similar line of work. Indie artists are so screwed it almost feels like most of them have given up on even being compensated for their work and a lot of them start to rely on 'pay what you want' model, which to be honest - might work really well for established artists - not so well for small time folks. And despite of what some people say, it's not easy to shine on your own online, there's an overflow of media in general and folks might need someone to help them stand out. The worst thing about it is that they pour their hearts out into what they do and it's often for nothing, so I don't really blame them for hooking up with studios, labels and whatnot, because at least there is some sure money in that and the responsibility of handling piracy is hot potatoed onto someone else. Anyway, I digress.rockatansky4073 wrote: i'm friends with alot of underground/independant horror filmmakers and musicians and downloading destroys them.

Unless I am misunderstanding I think those on here who are talking about pirated copies are simply saying; "I want to watch Fury Road all the time, cant bear the gap between cinema and bluray release and the temptation is almost too much when it comes to pirate copies". They'd buy the bluray now instead of watching a pirate and will buy the bluray anyhow even if they DO watch a pirate".
But yes, that doesnt make it morally right.
Personally I have no real interest in pirated copies, not because I am some upstanding moral figurehead, but because I hate watching degraded versions of films. Makes me feel like im missing out. And from what ive seen pirates are always a little soiled no matter how good the torrent.
And going off topic, I have little sympathy with the big entertainment industries. In some ways they created the piracy problem. The music industry had the perfect product vehicle in vinyl and they chose to chase the short term dollar with CD reissues back in the eighties. The film industry has been doing the same thing to a certain extent with their re-format-and-resell model. They've devalued their art and their artists.
Just to reiterate i'm against piracy, its just that I dont think much of those corporations who distribute this stuff legimately either.

Maybe if you're lucky you'll get to see the people in front of the guy filming taking their seats, a la MST3K.
I've seen some pirated copies like that, and no, I didn't buy them. I'm never in that big of a hurry. The good stuff is worth the wait.

Yeah, but the rub is that without the financial muscle of these corporations, it's very difficult to get your product made and promoted. Certainly with something of the scale of a summer movie.johnentwistlespout wrote:Unless I am misunderstanding I think those on here who are talking about pirated copies are simply saying; "I want to watch Fury Road all the time, cant bear the gap between cinema and bluray release and the temptation is almost too much when it comes to pirate copies". Interesting moral debate going on, just thought I'd mention that the only reason I posted is because the leaked copy is high quality, so for those who are talking about degraded quality it wouldn't apply in this instance. It was a streaming quality copy, so similar to Netflix for instance (which usually means high res, but with artifacts in areas of low colour depth).
I haven't decided if I'll get it or not, but I will mention that some companies measure the quantities of piracy to gauge popularity of some products. We live in interesting times!

that's a shame. i really wanted to see it. i wasnt totally thrilled with the photography model scene in the trailer and it turned me off from seeing it to the point of forgetting about it until you mentioned it. the short film for it was awesome.Artemis Flow wrote:Yeh I hear ya I followed the Wyrmwood guys for a couple of years as they got that movie up and running and a few days after it was released it was uploaded to torrent and became the most downloaded movie in the world that weekend , those poor guys were devastated , not fair . not on , no excuse
as for downloading a movie, as a rule i do it if i already own it to be a digital back up copy. digital copies werent a thing when i started my dvd collection.
Re: Fury Road 1080p copy leaked
I found a pirate copy on youtube about 2 weeks ago. It's the full movie and not one of the many 'click on this link' pretend movies, with subtitles.
However, the sound was terrible and the visual quality was poor.
The sound was so bad (like it was recorded in a wind tunnel), I had to skip to the action scenes.

Where's Mel?, watched it last night, did not see any Cameo from Max himself?, nor did I see the scene where the girl uses her fingers and looks to the horizon and see's Toecutter's gang approaching in the far distance as shown in the trailer.
And the whole movie nobody eat's a damn thing except for Max chewing on a 2 headed lizard?, no can's of dog food for the long journey thru the desert?, except for the water hose, nobody's drinking water either, you wouldn't last a half a day out there.

This is the best example what happens when you see a pirate copy of the film . . .
