I just finished reading the comic book and I have to admit, the amount of background story this world has is really piling up into something huge.
It's been said that Fury Road is just a snapshot of a fully developed world, but after reading this comic you'll definitely notice how vast that world is.
Ok, so this comic directly precedes Fury Road, down to Miss Giddy going back into the vault with a shotgun. And it's dark, wow is it dark with some things The Five Wives say. I'm probably going to spoil it for you guys but there's talk of anal rape, there's self-abortion attempt by Angharad, Dag got raped and pregnant, damn. All this makes you really hate Immortan and that damn cult of his. In the movie it wasn't really like that, all we knew is that women were things to him and some people even thought that he seemed to care for them. Hell no! That guy is a freak, they even implied in the comic book that he dressed up The Wives to look like the War Boys, and The Wives even made fun of him that he's really into War Boys. It's really messed up. There's a reason the Wives got their chastity belts (not to perform self-abortion or get raped by Rictus).
All this info works really cool in contrast with the movie where you need to figure everything out for yourself with as little information as there is, but it's a good thing because it keeps you involved in the action first and foremost. Awesome story in the comic book all in all, I have no complaints.
BTW, they're hinting that it all takes place in Australia.

I thought this was a step up from the first issue, not that I didn't enjoy the Joe/Nux stories. There's some really nice characterization (and the smallest sliver of additional backstory) for Furiosa here, but I don't want to get into spoilers myself.
Didn't the first issue pretty firmly set it in Australia? Not to mention its a Mad Max story. Is there actually debate over where Fury Road is set?Taipan wrote:BTW, they're hinting that it all takes place in Australia.

Didn't really care for it. It doesn't really add anything to the movie. Very predictable. Pretty clear by joining up the dots in Fury Road that the Five Wives' lives must have been pretty lousy - despite living in relative luxury by this world's standards - and the comic's storytelling just hammers the point home a little too heavily. "Let's make it REALLY CLEAR the Wives were being raped on a regular basis". What's great is the movie just gives you enough to figure all this out and it's done in a way far less clumsy than this. Furiosa's role in it here is just as a heavy standing around doing nothing. For me, it was a disappointment. I'd rather stick with my own ideas about what happened beforehand. Artwork's very weak in places as well.
"...and it was here in this blighted place, he learned to live again."

Thanks for the little insight of the comic. I hope my pre-ordered one will ship soon.
"UNDERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"OVERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"HORSEPOWER" is how fast you hit the fence.
"TORQUE" is how far you take the fence with you.

Re: Fury Road-related Comics (**POSSIBLE SPOILERS**)
I thought the Furiosa comic was supposed to go into how she came to be an Imperator and all that.
I didn't care for Immortan Joes backstory at all. I thought it was kinda dumb. The one I came up with made a lot more sense to me. I think I'm going to skip the Max comics because I'll probably be disappointed in them as well.

The comic is called "Furisoa #1", meaning that there should be a #2 down the line. So there is hope for Furiosa's backstory.
