Got me thinking, any precedents for that?

How about Godfather style, scenes from all the movies fade to tired old Max, he slumps over in the driver's seat and dies, his new dog sniffing around his now lifeless body. Hey even the "they keep pulling me back in!" thing works for Max :).
I don't really want that and I have no idea why but it just popped into my head.

Killing off Max would be like killing off James Bond and then continuing making the movies... makes no sense

Unfortunately, I'm doubtful they will not try making Mad Max movies without Miller within the next 30 years.

On the other hand, Miller owns the rights since 1995 or so, if memory serves me well. Maybe they cannot? Let's hope.

I'm not aware of any precedent in regards to a creator/rights holder actually ceasing all future development of their creations/possessions but the ball is entirely in Dr Millers court. In a legal sense, he is entirely entitled to do so.

I've never considered Mad Max to be in the same vain as James Bond. To me at their heart all the movies can be boiled down as pure cop movies, if other people want to turn Max into some sort of mythical figure that represents an ideal that transcends one lifetime like The Phantom or 007, fair play to them but its not for me. It took a long time for me to get my head around another actor taking up the role, couldn't handle going through it again down the track. Unless its some young dude who got the role as a young Max just starting out as an MFP officer.

That was my main question, are you sure about that? Is it possible to will intellectual property (apologies if that's the wrong term but you get the idea) into such a black hole? Or does your IP have to go to some person, organization, be relinquished to public domain, into a trust, etc., does it have to go "somewhere"?

EDIT: I guess this might be a pointless discussion, as there is probably zero chance Miller would actually do this. Also, it's not really a discussion for this thread or even this forum. Unless someone has a simple yes/no answer, I won't continue. Anyway :)

What if he put something in his will stating that he wishes that no more Mad Max films be made when he dies?

Short answer, yes.
Not totally pointless, look at it this way, Of all the thousands of questions I`ve seen Mr Miller answer recently, no one has asked the question "Any plans or thoughts on killing off Max to bring the journey to an end? and a natural follow up for ME, emphasising me, "As the rights owner, how close do you hold the creation of Max and would you be happy if someone else took on the challenge down the track?" I would pay $50 hard cash right now to see, hear, watch the answer to those questions

The legal side of the whole thing is a bit extreme but relevant as Miller is in some very rarefied air, He is the creator and owner of the Company/Corporation that owns the rights of a very successful film franchise. Not even The Beatles were ever able to own the rights to their own creations. The only other comparison of significance is the other George. One sold his much like one would move on a $4 Billion house.
As far as Public Domain, it`s all here, kinda.

Even after the passing of George Miller, a possible 120 years must pass before the rights to Mad Max can even be considered to placed in the public domain. Even then, it would be risky to use anything. More interesting then talking about ghost pursuit specials and feral kids in my book.

Thanks Uncle.
After seeing the movie again recently I don't think Miller can kill off Max in the next two films coz I think Fury Road is actually the last part of the trilogy. I get the feeling that the next two movies will be prequels. Old, tired BoB is the key and Max found his redemption.
