Given how well theme is entwined into Miller's films, I'd say he represents corporations. He's a fat cat, the typical money obsessed sexual deviant.

Absolutely, mate!
Not only does Splendid say "The people eater... come to count the cost"
But the People eater himself reels off a list of what this Family squabble has cost them.

Oh yes true, she does say that. He was certainly a vile and very memorable character!

He has that accountant business-man attitude but calling him Joe's accountant makes him sound like an employee which I don't believe he was. The warlords spoke as equals, and I also didn't get the feeling he does the "accounting" for Joe or anyone else, I think they handle all their own affairs separately. I think it was more just expressing his business-like attitude, he has to always tally things and let people know he felt they were being wasteful, investing too much for something not terribly important.

like how the war rig is like an extreme version of the rig from Road Warrior, and the War Boys resemble scrooloose, and almost everything in Fury is derivative or reminiscent of something from one of the earlier three films (not in a bad way) The people eater is like an extreme re imagining of The Collector from Bartertown.

The People Eater: what a great character, LOL. quite artistic/allegorical, at that.

In the comics, the man who was to become THE PEOPLE EATER was actually just a normal fat man with nothing wrong with his feet. He becomes mayor of Gas Town as Joe's newest Lt. who helps get him the rocks. There is little backstory from issue 1 about him outside of this early version of him.

In FR he has started looking like a seriously crazy man. Clearly he is a businessman of sorts, but his appearance and his stretch limo seem to be an allegory of his corruption. The nipple clamps show that he is a sexual deviant. He is morbidly obese and has seriously untreated health issues with his feet- tumors or whatever. However, he is depicted walking so he is not fully handicapped.

In looking closely, he is clearly wearing makeup and a wears a decorative nose.

Now, the stretch limo is hilarious. Since driving a truck is too ugly and unbecoming for him, he had the front replaced with a mercedes. Anyway, it's really a fuel tanker for the vehicle fleet and the People Eater keeps his supply on hand. He's basically the operations/logistics officer for Immortem Joe's attack force.

Makes you wonder though, why not keep it "in the rear with the gear" where it would be safe? For a villain like Joe that kind of careful defensive attitude may not fit, but it would be a lot more believable for the Eater as an "accountant" type.

My question is how do the wives know who the People Eater is? They identify him by sight through a telescope from the War Rig - but when would they have ever seen him before or known his name?

I think the different clan leaders visited each other to do negotiations. And Immortan has probably being showing off when they visited them by showing his wives to them. Remember that the Bullet Farmer also mentioned very sarcastically that it was just all about a family scribble (or whatever he said) and healthy babies. So he also knew of the wives.
