Immortan Joe - Final Chase Query

Post by SCREWLOOSE »

I have been thinking about the chase scene at the end of the movie and one thing has bugged me.

Why did Immortan Joe and his Armada wait in the desert before seeing the War Rig make its way back to the Citadel? (I know from a convenience point of view it made things easier)

Surely after loosing Max, Furiosa and co in the initial chase they would have thought the War Rig was long gone and went back to the Citadel, said a few curse words, investigated what went wrong etc. and Immortan Jo would have selected a few more brides and began his breading programmed again.

Did I miss something in the movie that answers this question for me?

Also you would have to question Immortan Joe's strategy of taking all his War Boy's to "battle as such" and leaving the Citadel totally undefended. He run the risk of being over thrown by a small rebellion from the "Wretched" or other desert tribes - I can only assume his Oppressive reign of power ensured any thoughts of an uprising were quelled as the consequences of failed Coup d'état would have been potentially horrendous.
Pray hes out there!!

I think 1, he was kinda demoralized after the death of Splendid and his child, so was just having a breather.
2, he was waiting for that couple of Warboys on the bike (who Furiosa sniped) to come back with news.
3, he was expecting her to come back eventually, since he knew there was "nothing but salt" out there.

He was grieving for Splendid and also waiting on the Bullet Farmer who said he'd get his Wives back since his vehicle was the only one able to cross the Bog.

The only people he really had to worry about taking over The Citadel would have been the ones who eventually did. No one else could have taken over in his absence as no one can get into/ up to The Citadel without having the lift lowered down, getting on and being hoisted back up. People like Nux, Furiosa and of course The Wives would have been let back in, as indeed they were.

How exactly did his jaw get ripped off? I know the grappling hook snagged on his mask, but wouldn't it have just ripped his mask off? But because his mask opens did it somehow get latched inside his mouth, thus ripping off his jaw?

Movie magic just like a 7ft guy maintaining balance on the bonnet of a truck while doing 80 mph and tearing the top of an engine block off ;)

I guess just the plain force of which the mask was ripped off with - like he didn't have time to unhook it or anything, so it just got hooked in and took it all, man.

I think we need to go with this answer, or maybe just assume she hooked it into his mouth/face around his jaw too.

Yes the mask opened with his mouth opening, so it's somehow attached, but I mean how well attached? Does he have some dental apparatus that is actually hard connected to the mask? We see the mask open and see his teeth, so it's most likely it's just somehow attached to his lips, and that would have at best ripped off his lips.
