Just saw it. I am generally not a fan of 3D, nor was the stranger sitting next to me. But after a few minutes I either didn't mind it or didn't notice it. There were a few times that it was kinda cool, with what I can best describe as "layers" of film much like an old video game with layers of graphics (foreground moves faster than the background layers).
But now, a few hours later, my eyes kinda hurt. Not sure if there's a correlation.
I would frankly prefer 2D. But the free screening was in 3D. I don't understand why films waste so much money on 3D, since I know ZERO people that clamor for it...
Edited to add: I am not prone to headaches, but I had a really bad headache that night and for hours the next morning. It's directly related to the 3D in my opinion. I won't watch it again in 3D.
3D hmmmm....

Have to say that having seen it in 3D, it adds little but then again after the first 5 mins or so where it was distracting, I stopped noticing it either. Would have preferred 2D but no local showings. Don't be too disheartened if its your only option, it doesn't ruin it at all. I just find it a pointless gimmick, there is one shot at the end of the movie that sucks BIG, I mean it makes me think of the shark blowing up in Jaws 3D and the jaws flying at the screen. It is really over calculated and corny that is way out of place with the rest of the movie
.
Sidenote, the trailers for San Andreas were in 3D - now that does look REALLY good in 3D...

Heheh my god yes, that was sad, so cheesy. It's so bad I have to wonder if it was intentionally bad, a little screw you to 3D from Miller.scfc68 wrote:there is one shot at the end of the movie that sucks BIG, I mean it makes me think of the shark blowing up in Jaws 3D and the jaws flying at the screen. No way I'm seeing it in 3d for the first time. I actually had to skip on Thursday screenings as all were in 3d.
IMO, 3D distracts too much on details. It's impossible (at least to me) to keep track of any peripheral details, either visual or action. And Mad Max movies are FULL of little details.
Maybe if it was originally shot in 3D, it would be worth it to see the car action, but since it's a conversion, no 3D for me.

Re: 3D hmmmm....
I have seen more than a few movies in 3D, some with only certain scenes which keeps the effect much move vivid (however they were filmed with a full 3D camera). The new style of glasses are far superior to the old paper blue/red glasses. Like others have said after the first few scenes I didn't really notice it. At some point I even took the glasses off to confirm there was a difference. I don't feel it was distracting or that it diminished my experience at all, but I also don't think it really added anything to it. The War Rig wreck was a blatant exploitation of the 3D effect that was underwhelming, to slow motion to garner the "wow" reaction.
Overall it was still great and well worth it to get the mini movie poster from the Regal Cinema promotion.

Re: 3D hmmmm....
I saw it yesterday on 2D and tomorrow I am going for the 3D version. I will tell you my opinion.

They say people don't believe in heroes anymore. Well damn them!.. We're gonna give them back their heroes!
Re: 3D hmmmm....
I'm going to see this for the third time tomorrow but it will be the first time in 3D. First time for 3D in a cinema of anything actually but i wanted to see this on the big screen in that format also. Not sure what to expect but hopefully it will be a fun experience. In the Cannes panel video George Miller is asked which format he would recommend seeing it in and he recommended the 3D format. That has me wondering if the 3D format may even be better that what i've already viewed.

Re: 3D hmmmm....
I planned on seeing it in 2D all the way but to my shock after I paid the $8.75 for the matinee viewing the ticket lady gave me a pair of them glasses. I was so shocked I thought they were something like a promotion giveaway as these glasses were so lame compared to the 3D glasses they'd give out at the theaters in Thailand. I still wasn't even sure it was going to be in 3D until right before the movie started the usher announced to put on the 3D glasses. Anyway, it sucked watching it in 3D as it always does because it's not bright enough and can't be bright enough because of something about the technology. So, my first viewing I couldn't see everything and with the dialogue being tough to hear I couldn't hear everything. The theater charges $11.75 for matinee 3D and I paid only $8.75 so I don't know if it was a "special" or what but that better not ever happen again.
A couple of days later I saw it in 2D($8.75 lol) at the same theater. I mean, very same screen in the very same theater. I even sat up near the front so I could have the whole row to myself. It definitely looked a lot better than crappy 3D, how could it not? It was bright and shiny. I normally don't see movies twice in a theater as it's not my thing, even for a Mad Max movie. I didn't get much else out of the 2nd viewing, I kinda spaced out during the lull in the action. I wanted to see and hear Nux's Chevy coupe again as it was my favorite vehicle. Nux was by far my favorite character too, so I paid close attention to everything he did even though some people might say he was "mediocre" lol. I wanted to make sure it was Slit that got crunched in the Interceptor, it looked like it was him both times. Oh well, I could go on..

You will ride eternal, shiny and chrome!
Re: 3D hmmmm....
I thought the 3D in this was amazing. I will watch it in 2D when I get the blu but the 3D blu will be my preferred choice. I absolutely love 3D and would love every action movie to be available in this format. it really added a lot to the experience for Fury Road IMO.
