I agree there should have been a longer chase in the black Interceptor ( maybe it was cut ? ) I suppose if this is the old 2003 script then there would have been no Interceptor , so Miller has added it to the 2015 version ( thank christ ) but it was hard to see it die again but hey those War Boys are productive lads it may get re birthed again
There wasn't anything obviously Australian in it for international audiences apart from the glimpse of the Aboriginal , but plenty of Aussie accents and Aussie vehicles / actors made it fine for me as an Aussie
I thought Max acted exactly as someone would who hasn't spoken for a long long time , this was portrayed very well the way he mumbled and slowly came out of his shell to say " my name is Max "
The car chases were excellent , the Buzzard scene with the spiky cars was frantic ! loved it , spoke to one of the crew who said that car flip with Elvis going into the sand trap was not CGI but real !
There were so many cool characters and so little time to explore all of then before they got killed oh well aaagh :!: we need that directors cut lol
I walked out of the cinema thinking yup just let the original trilogy sit where it lies in another timezone , it looks dated but not in a bad way
This is Mad Max with the knob turned up to 11 as someone said
My only complaint was some of the dialog was hard to hear , I couldn't make out all of Bullet Farmers rant after he got blinded and a few other lines , the CGI was a let down in a couple of the crash scenes where stuff flies at the screen ( probably made for 3D ? ) , the sandstorm was fcking spectacular though dunno why people are hating on it lol

I haven't seen the movie yet, but im glad the interceptor was in it, to bad it wasent a good 5-10 min chase sounds like. To me the the Interceptor is kind of Max's light saber if you will. Oh well I guess. Even for how cool Batman is its pretty damn neat when he's behind the wheel of the Batmobile you know what I mean? Mabey the next movie could be a prequel to this and build Max in more dramatic and tense version of the first movie. Including the Interceptor. I am pumped and ready to see Fury road!! Finally.

Don't worry the scene with the silver Interceptor is pretty special :!:

There is beauty here; the night shots specifically, and moments of shear unadulterated oddness...but this isn't a mad max film. The thing is, what is a mad max film? For many of us it's mad max 2 and, to paraphrase a character therein, the capability to just let things breeeeath. Theres no mad max on broken hill eating dog food overlooking a vista here. There's no echoing crow as dying V8 passes beneath us. To be honest, there's no worship of the engine really...not like we know and love. That's not to say this isn't a mad max film though. This is a deeply fucked up film. It is more mad max, in a way, than anything we've had yet....I just don't what to make of it yet. Is it flawed, or am I flawed? Will I dislike it more and more I see it or love it more...I REALLY don't know.
Some of what you said makes sense to me. While watching it, i definitely had the feeling that 'a lot of this is good and exciting, but it isn't really a mad max film'. Sure it has so much of the aesthetic, but it moves so fast and is so utterly outsized in its look and style that it's more into the realms of total mad sci-fi/fantasy than the almost-realism of MM2. Of course even MM2 had insane elements, but this is just on a totally different level. Call me old fashioned, but I can't help preferring, like you say, when a film' breathes', rather than looking like a kid-on-red-bull's fantasy.

You often cannot appreciate or even get a decent sense of what's happened because they cut to another scene so quickly. We have some really cool stunt work and real cars being destroyed and etc., but they cut away so quickly it doesn't have the same impact.

I might have to see it again but right now I am probably in the camp that feels it's just not really a Mad Max movie so to speak. Beyond that, it also didn't really blow me away at all. Oh well, like any other entertainment thing that gets brought back after a long time, I was prepared to be disappointed :).

Maybe I was too pumped up. Watching trailers and bits over and over I was very excited. I had friends over last night for a marathon of the first 3, and there was a lot of anticipation there too. I felt none of that as I watched Fury Road a few hours ago, I was just kinda neutral pretty much the whole time. I found out about early showing tonight (well Thurs night) and went alone, maybe that's also part of the problem. I might see it again with friends.

If that was true it wouldn't of been in the movie at all. The shape of the Interceptor was another visual cue that the car is just as broken and burnt out as it's driver.

Thankfully the Mad Max franchise does not revolve around 1 car.
The Interceptor's there as a nod for the fans, nothing more. The fact it gets wiped out straight away is Miller's way of telling you this is going to be a different Mad Max movie. It's his franchise. He can do what he wants with it.

Just got back from seeing it and this is embarrassing: I adored it.

From top to bottom. Five minutes in, felt like I was watching a different movie. Seriously, halfway in I was thinking it's as good as MM2. Less narration at the start, less footage of the world ending, no narration at the end. Ended up loving the flashbacks, weirdly enough. They were so fucking bad in the rough cut but they've tightened them up and made them integral to the story now. Even ended up loving Hardy's take on Max in the end. A complete turnaround! I absolutely fucking loved it. So much so, I snuck in to watch the first half again just as it started up in another theater. Theaters were packed for both screenings. That's a good sign.

I love how Max is mad they took his car and how he look when the silver one is destroyed lol

On top of that, i'm happy one of the scenes in the storyboard that i saw back then make in in the movie. The one with the dart through Max's hands.

Hardy's Max is awesome, can't get enough of him but his grunt and his screams sounds kinda different, it's sounds like someone else did those grunts and screams lol

I'm pretty sad Valkyrie is dead and her death felt brutal.

Splendid's were sad too.

But the saddest death to me is the Silver Interceptor. In RW, the crash was fast and quick. In this, it's like watching your favourite character get tortured slowly.

Overall i give this 9/10

Well, Mad Max movies doesn't revolve around 1 car you know.

I just wish Max uses his shotgun lot more than it is.
