I've have to once again agree with Pauli77. MM1 and MM2 were 5/5 stars with each having their own strengths. And both are thought provoking and terrifying worlds, in a great science fiction way. Not so much with MM3, although very interesting and a fairly well done movie (victim to some really questionable writing/plot points).pauli77 wrote:Firstly, and I know it's getting off topic, but Mad Max 2 is only superior as an action film. I don't feel the world of Road Warrior is as interesting or as well thought out. To create a sense of the world on the brink of total anarchy has never been rendered as well as in that first film; it is our world - albeit an older one to my youth - but on the edge and breaking down. It's far more frightening, isolating and thought provoking. In many ways, it is a horror film - a kind of horror-revenge that was popular in the 70s but made with the craft of something like Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It's a genuinely important film that is superior in certain aspects, though I admit it is inferior as an action film - and possibly as an enjoyable movie.
Much like the really dumb decision to have the same actor play a major role but probably different character in MM2 and MM3 with the pilot... I don't understand why use the same actor for two key bad guys in MM1 and MM4. Has Hollywood ran out of candidates? Is it purposeful to generate this discussion and interest (if so, perhaps a tip of the hat for creating controversy). Much like the pilot, though, I fear it detracts from the story, plot, and action quite needlessly. Yes, it's obvious that TC would have died from the head-on high speed collision with the rig. On some miracle he momentarily wasn't killed, he would not have survived to get medical treatment (let's not forget that Max's wife and child died from being run over by motorcycles which would have done much less damage than hitting a semi-truck at 100 mph). If it turns out that it is the TC, this movie just tanked in my mind as simply beyond absurd and I'll walk out of the film.
Why not have Wez come back too as a mowhawk motorbike beserker called Crazyman Jones!? I mean, come on...
