While I'm a big fan of guns, and guns in movies when done correctly, I don't care for the prevalence of guns in the MM world. Why? Solutions become quite simple when you introduce guns. Cars are EASILY defeated with guns. Guns shoot through them, guns put holes in engines (blocks, hoses, radiators, tires, gas tanks, etc.), and guns easily reach drivers and passengers.
Bullets require several components (lead, primer, shell case, and gun powder). The lead would be relatively easy to find, and shells can be reused to a point, but the primer and gun powder would be quite difficult and then you also need special measuring, weighing, and loading tools that would certainly be in short supply in a violent, foraging post apacy world.
MM1 had very little gun play, but we saw how quickly guns solved problems. Max was shot from a distance with a snubnose .38 (albeit unrealistically - one of few complaints of that movie) and it nearly ended him. Max ended Bubba with his 12 gauge. This world would have seen the most abundance of ammo in my view as production for a commercial based society still existed.
MM2 had little gun play, and lots of crossbows. This is how I envision the PA world a decade after a collapse. Very little gas, and very little remaining ammo and other supplies. Lots of innovation weapons and armor, like crossbows. Of course, civilization and production had ceased and it was roaming, fighting, foraging, survival. Ammo would have been quickly be consumed in this world. We see evidence of this by the fact that there are only a couple guns, and bullets are in scarce supply as a luxury item (along with food, gas, water, etc.).
MM3 had many guns, but apparently not a lot of ammo. Most of the fighting was melee or arrows/bolts. Auntie had a crossbow. Max was shot at by a crossbow. Blaster was killed by arrows. Etc. Guns were pointed around and shot as warnings a handful of times (which I thought was particularly stupid and wasteful of ammo). Max carried several guns, and one would probably need to so that if you find some ammo, your odds of that caliber matching one of your guns improves. He had a shotgun, 9mm pistol, and revolver and others.
MM4 - well I've seen many guns and magazines in the promos. There may have been some crossbow style weapons too. I'll reserve judgment on how they are explained and presented, but I'm cynical. A few guys with M4s, AKs, or MP5s and plenty of ammo can/could easily end the battle or car chase against unarmed people. Possession of these could be explained by perhaps finding a massive military armory undefended, or an ammunition factory, etc. We shall see.
No Crossbows?
Re: No Crossbows?
Just wanted to post this here but it shows the arsenal is pretty much a combination of everything - from firearms, blades to crossbows too.
Rictus himself is a mix of everything from having a hand cannon holstered to a crossbow mounted on his left arm. You can also see some of Immortan Joe's people with crossbows in the back too.
They probably try make the "more guns" argument plausible with The Bullet Farmer. lol

Re: No Crossbows?
I'm curious to know if the prevalence of guns in FR is due in part to Greg Van Borssum's involvement.
Re: No Crossbows?
Probably not just because the concept art from 1999 to 2001 featured a variety of mounted guns and firearms before any cast or crew was involved.biolumen wrote:I'm curious to know if the prevalence of guns in FR is due in part to Greg Van Borssum's involvement.
