No Crossbows?

Post by Shadow94 »

It looks like George has abandoned the crossbows that defined the Road Warrior in favor of everyone suddenly having an Uzi or an M4. Many characters look like commandos all armed to the teeth with machine guns. I thought it was great when Max had one of a very few guns and it was like an object of wonder, like the Humungus' revolver. In this version it looks like everyone has a gun, except those guys with the explosive harpoons.

What are your thoughts on the arsenal upgrades? Does it look like Miller is trying to sell this movie to the modern gamer generation, or does it look like he wanted a change from crossbows?

I don't know if you noticed, but Miller already favored firearms over bow weapons in MMBT.

As much as RW suggests there's an underabundance of firearms and ammo in that world I don't think Miller ever wanted to go in that direction, regardless of the generation his movies were aimed at.
Having said that, RW's 'unique' weapon were crossbows. FR's got its unique weapon too - those granade spears or whatever you want to call it. Other than that, FR looks very weaponized, but there's a reason for that - the Bullet Farm.

Don't sweat it. There are crossbows.

I'd say it's that one.

There is a wrist bow in the recent photos.

Also, where is Max's shotgun? Come on George, he can't be Max with an M4 and a bunch of magazine pouches.

I might have seen a pic with the shotgun in it. I might have missed it in some scenes.

I didn't see Thunderdome all the way through though I probably will one day. Max as a grizzled old man didn't appeal very much to me and neither did the 80s soundtrack. It was better when the tragedy was still more recent in his mind.

I think Byron's death really altered the MM Universe because then George had free reign to increase the camp. Not necessarily a bad thing, just less interesting to me in my opinion.

MMBT had quite a few more firearms in it, but there still wasn't a lot of gunplay. They were around, but most of the fighting was still crossbow or melee based.

I really don't mind all that much. I mean, guns are just really common in the modern world. I never understood why there were so few in RW. You'd think somebody could scrounge up a rifle or two.
