I know what you mean about all these online experts now moaning about the cgi in Fury Road. What I've seen in the trailers looks really great and is used in a much more inventive way than most of the sci-fi stuff being made recently (Jupiter Ascending comes to mind). It's also of impeccable quality... Miller is a real auteur, a true artist, and is deploying the cgi in a very creative fashion.

This is THE movie of the year for me to see!

I think people need to understand how modern film marketing works. The trailers are basically sizzle reels with all the over the top crazy stuff put in it to get people into theatres.

The trailers don't necessarily reflect the amount of cgi in the film itself.

As Nathan Jones says in that post its only 20%, though I suspect it may be a little more but his point is made.

You cant judge a film on 4 minutes of footage.

Well you can't please everyone. Especially when people now are being picky and always trying to find something to complaint about. Some might say i'm too easily pleased but who cares, i know i'll enjoy every second of it.

If an English period drama uses CG to enhance the surroundings and make it more authentic, people seem genuinely shocked a big-budget sci-fi post-apocalyptic carfest would do the same. Lame.
I feel CGI always comes down to two factors, is it convincing and is it plausible? The weather and scenery effects we've seen are, in my opinion, amazing, totally convincing and breathtaking. We've also seen some digital erasing which is pretty much undetectable, for example the side mounted war rig stunt driver being removed from a shot or the suicide guy having all the wires removed. However, having been given the benefit of witnessing both the Comic-Con teaser and the official trailer, I feel that the CGI added in the vehicle scenes is doing more harm than good in its current state. I also feel the same about the shots where the camera goes into the storm, both in terms of realism and camera movement.

Not only do I find it kills the realism for me, I feel it detracts from what has been an incredible effort in terms of breaking the current blockbuster trend and actually doing stunts for real. It seems over-egged and unneeded, a step backward from the teaser footage that actually makes the production look cheaper not better.

I hope that makes sense.

I wish they made a real tornado and drove straight into it while filming.

One does not simply use crappy CGI to enhance British period drama! Practical FTW! :D
