First Impressions?

Post by Shadow94 »

Hi. It's been a while since I've been on here and I wanted to know what your initial reactions are for MM4.

Ok, so mine? Well this looks like a hybrid of the Road Warrior and Thunderdome and I'm not sure if having Thunderdome's camp is good or not. I mean, the RW was great because the camp was mixed with the grit, creating a pretty psychotic world. Maybe it's just the bright filter on this one, but something about it looks cheesy like the Wild Wild West movie. Just my worries.

The backlash has started, and the movie hasn't been released yet!

Most of the reviews from people who have been to the screeners has been pretty positive, with some mixed. Recent interviews with Miller and McCarthy suggest the movie is a 'reboot' of the franchise, updated in style from nearly 30 years ago for a new generation of moviegoers. Personally, from what I've seen, I think it looks really good, CGI included. Mad Max always had a 'kinky' campness to the design, although FR seems to be a bit more 'hippy' in the costuming than I'd like.

I think we're getting used to seeing it what's in the trailers. It may be a good idea if they don't put out any more footage until the film is released.

I can't share my impressions on the movie yet... because I didn't see the july trailer, nor the teaser trailer of the last week :) It was hard, I have to admit, but also very simple because I don't wan't to be spoiled, even by a trailer. I want to discover the movie on the big screen, as much as possible. After 30 years of waiting, I can be patient and wait four more months (the last month doesn't count :D ). And I'll come back in may to the board. See you guys!

Well I don't like to judge a book by its cover so I don't like to judge a movie by its trailer.

When I see it, it will all boil down to one thing for me, does the movie cause me to reflect on how I would feel and behave if I was in that world? That was the big emotional take for me when watching the first two movies, that's what my mind really dwelled on for a long time after watching them, perhaps ever since.

I wasn't born when these movies were made (I'm 20) but I grew up with The Road Warrior.

This movie is gonna boil down to whether it still has the same "spirit" RW did as far as if I like it or not. If it's too much like Thunderdome I might not. I really hope that George Miller hasn't gone all Tim Burton and made everything too campy though. The camp in the trilogy was balanced by the fact that these guys were psychos, so they weren't totally there upstairs. If this is just a bunch of MFP and military deserters dressing up like natives for the sake of it, I might find this movie very...Joel Schumacher-ish.

There's a lot of promising signs that Fury Road will be a decent flick. However, George Miller's track record the last 30 years has been spotty at best. Thankfully, Warner Brothers have kept him around..this must mean something.

My best guess is that Fury Road will be much better than Indy 4(Ugh), Prometheus(Wtf Ridley?), and the last two incarnations of Star Trek(JFC!). The worst case scenario is that it turns out to be too cartoonish of a smash-em up geared for the Chinese/Russian/etc. audiences.

The best case scenario is that Fury Road turns out to be a superior post apocalyptic action flick which truly deserves yet another sequel..Coming to a theater near you in 2021!
