I don't find this confusing nor do i think it's stupid.

How many pilots likely survived 10 years after the war, with mortality rates at about 95% of the population? How common is the skill of being a pilot 10 years after the war. Probably extremely rare. Yet Max encounters probably the only 2 pilots with working aircraft within probably a 2000 mile radius?!?! What are the odds, like 1 in a Billion? It's further complicated by the fact they are THE SAME ACTOR?!
Australia has alot of bush planes. So the odds of there being a few pilots left in an apocalyptic world is very high.

When Jedidiah jumps out of the plane on Max's vehicle, he looks behind him and Max isn't that far away. Before they robbed Max they could have been watching him from a distance with binoculars. Plenty of chances to see Max face before he came to Bartertown.

* Max clearly recognizes Jedidiah in the cave, and stops and they exchange a LONG stare of recognition and Max says something like "You know how to fly," or "You have a plane" or something like that. He had NO reason to know that following the story line of MM3.
The cave had a few airplane parts lying around such as a propeller, so Max could've connected the dots and assumed the guy had a plane. Also the kid yells at Jedidah 'Get in the plane, get in the plane'. Max could have heard that when he was running through the cave.

IF he was a different character, and not the Gyro captain, he would have either not recognized him, or been indifferent or even concerned that his victim is now in Bartertown. Yet, he smiles when he sees Max, and cheers for him in Thunderdome. Makes no sense whatsoever.
He cheers because he's spectating a fight. Just look at the Thunderdome, everyone is cheering and yelling and so on.

And if Jedidiah really was the gyro pilot, why didn't he help Max when he was in trouble? When Max was sent into the desert, Jedidiah could've gone after him like he did in Road Warrior after the bob crash if he was infact the gyro pilot. For me it's very clear that they're 2 different characters played by the same actor.

I agree with your CONCLUSION that they are intended to be the different characters. But your arguments require a LOT of assumptions... Jedidiah could have seen him from a distance - well the vehicle was a spec on the horizon. Would require telescopes beyond their possession to identify a face at 3 miles or more, from behind, on a moving vehicle, of a driver mostly or totally concealed by the vehicle itself. When Jedidiah is on the vehicle and looks back, same thing. Max is tumbling on the ground, and running from quite a distance and Jedidiah is looking back from a moving vehicle through obstructions... No chance of a positive ID. Perhaps a clothing ID, general build, figure, appearance. But would be difficult to pick him from a crowded Bartertown full of strangers. Similarly, presuming that Max saw this or heard that - none of it is supported by anything that is done in the movie, and requires viewers to make that leap...

In a world with no fuel, few airplanes/parts/supplies, and 95% violent mortality rate, and the very low need for pilots, it's highly probable those skills would perish or atrophy and the equipment long have been destroyed or been rendered unusable. Aircraft are highly sensitive items requiring tremendous work/maintenance. Not saying it's impossible mind you... just the improbability of the Gyro Captain AND Jedidiah both being the same actor but not the same character is very remote. But hey, it's the movies. Why over think it?

For all of the confusion, and to be fair there are great arguments on BOTH sides, I understand he is not intended to be the same character. He could very well have been however, given all of the reasons articulated.

Sadly, for me, this weird casting decision did detract from the film, and added to the reasons it scored low with me (the cartoon violence, non-threatening villains, and Tina Turner and the kids also contributed to my 3/5 score).

People are forgetting that Jedediah may have figured out who he was when he first came to Bartertown and made claim to his camels. Since Jedadiah is the one who sold the camels and witnessed Max's reaction to them being sold that is most likely when he put 2 and 2 together.

Max figured out Jedediah had a plane by the logic in the above posts, there won't be many planes around, or many pilots around, or someone with plane parts decorating their home in the vicinity of someone who has recently been robbed by someone WITH A PLANE. Max is not dumb and it would be a safe bet.

That is a great explanation I hadn't considered. Thanks!

Many welcomes. It's one of those things that who knows what was left on the cutting room floor. Perhaps there was a scene where Max learns who Jedediah is and that he has a plane, but it's not in the movie, so if we go with only what is in the movie it will force certain assumptions that do make sense of the scenes. It's like RW, it really doesn't make sense that the marauders would expend all that fuel trying to get the compound, does it? It's downright nonsensical. Unless..Humungus' gang only has so much fuel, right? maybe, just maybe they don't have enough fuel to get anywhere either. Slim pickings for scavengers for awhile makes them desperate. Perhaps without that fuel THEY will be stuck where they are without enough fuel to get somewhere with fuel. It comes down to rational survival.

It's call a conversation on an interesting topic. If you have zero to add, and only insults, then why bother posting.

What your doing it sitting around a table of people, and someone brings up a topic and there's an interesting discussion - and you butt in to scream and tell everyone they are idiots.

Why do people like you exist on forums... just to shout everyone else down and be a jerk?

Wow such a witty reply. Thanks .. us old folk on here must obviously have nothing to do or add.I mean why the fuck would want to state the truth and obvious when someone new knows it all. In fact knows more then George Miller does.

Yes conversation about something which is what? been answered?
Please please please explain how you can have a conversation discussing " is Gyro and Jedediah the same character" when its been answered?
What is there to discuss?

Are we discussing fantasy (a land full of fairies and pixie dust?) or the truth?
George Miller... the man responsible for the movie, said in an interview many many many many years ago, that the two characters are NOT THE SAME PERSON in the film then what more is there to discuss?

That Miller lied?
That Miller doesnt know what he is talking about
That YOURE RIGHT AND HE IS WRONG?

Fuck me dickheads like you must just so bloody bored that you need to argue a point even when your proven to be wrong.
We are 100% snafu....
