Hey, its great to find another Englishman here!!

Here's a blindingly obvious one, so obv I can't believe no one has asked it.

We've seen the game trailer; how close is the film to that, as in Hardy's look, the landscape, vehicles etc, Is it a direct tie in??

Uh! Oh! My bad... I went too fast on that thread! That's great though to have a fellow poster on this board to ask questions about the upcoming movie. Alas, it seems to be a reboot... 30 years of waiting for Mad Max 4 and finally we get a reboot  ... But, nonetheless, I'm pretty excited to see this new chapter in the Mad Max franchise!

Having a Mad Max movie WITHOUT story or plot and with Max being a tangential/marginal character.

Sounds like the Anti-Thunderdome Mad Max movie people wanted in 1985 and forward. Action, action, action, chase scene.

Hahaha I know man. I could of gone but I live in Michigan and was offered the passes about 7 hours before the showing happened and it's a 6+ hour flight from here to Burbank. If had been told the day before on the other hand...

Hey! There's a another one over here *waves*. I just happen to live in the US and have been for 11 years now. I'll be heading home to Leicester for the first time in 6 years though in September!

...I hope nothing drastic has changed again.

I asked if the "Plains of Solace" are mentioned and Joe couldn't recall. Various locations are visited, seen or mentioned so he wasn't sure. Max in the game looks like Hardy though, that's evident from the screenshots and new trailers. We've known on the boards here too that the vehicles, characters, weapons and such used in FURY ROAD are in the game too. Avalanche Studios even flew out to Namibia to photograph all the cars and record audio. It's safe to say that in some ways the game is an extension of the movie, so what you may get a glimpse of or if a location is mentioned in the movie...you might get to visit that location in the game. ;)

I think you asked about Furiosa and humor earlier? This isn't from Snortin Joe but from other viewers I spoke to. They commented that Theron as Furiosa was great and was a fully realized and favorable character with a kick ass look to boot. Mechanical arm anyone?

They also mentioned that there is some humor in the film so it's not completely bleak. "Funny character moments and wonderfully weird stuff scattered throughout the movie" is what one person said.

I don't know all the details but essentially yes, before the opening credits even roll Max is involved in a road battle and loses.
I actually like the idea of the title hero losing a battle. It seems like every story for quite a long time has everything handed to them to get out of a scuffle so there's no possibility of them taking a loss.

A great example is Hunger Games or Harry Potter; each riddled with endless amounts of maguffins and plot coupons that get them out of a jam.

What a great way to introduce Max to a new crowd. Show him losing and show how resourceful he is to get out of it.

Hmmm. It seems a fairly academic discussion anyway since reports suggest Furiosa is as much a main character as Max, despite it been titled "Max". However, I have a few points.

Obviously, it's silly to go on about the early films but many of you do it so I'm going to lol. The reason the first film was so impactful was because we learned the world, we learned about Max, we saw him try to make a better future and then we saw him lose it all and become a "burnt out shell of a man", so we really went with him in that story. In the second film, it opens with Max displaying his skills; he out drives his pursuers so as an audience we know this guy is "special". When he eventually loses a road battle, he has already had an impact on the story by securing the tanker.

My main issue is one of how this film is keep talked about as over the top, which could be great entertainment of course. But in those two films, Max couldn't afford to be "captured". In the first film if Toecutters gang had captured an MFP officer they'd have possibly raped then killed him. In the second film, if Max had been captured by Humungus' gang a similar fate may have awaited him. He existed and survived in very dangerous places.

It could ofc work but I just wonder how dangerous the gangs in Fury Road are when Max can be captured for 30 mins of the film after his first road battle lol.

I'm hopeful ofc though because I'm just thinking through the tiny details I've heard.

Well, Max lost his vehicle in the first minutes of MMBT, and then got sent to die out in the desert.
In MM2 he got captured in the Compound. For like 2 minutes. But then again he got his ass handed to him by Wez and an exhaust pipe to the windshield.

My point is, Max isn't really a hero. He's smart and has skills but he's been shaking hands with the devil way too many times and he's pretty lucky to be alive. Luck being the key word. He's a lucky bastard! Maybe that's why he's being captured for a good while and then bails.

i didnt quite mean "title hero" meaning "just max" it's an overwhelming theme for main characters lately.

the main hero/character always getting by unscathed learning very little in the process; when drama could have been had by struggle.

my two examples of harry potter and the hunger games show this. in all the potter books (having read none, and watched a few of the series) i have seen no evidence of harry LEARNING anything from his experiences. just "get this thing." to fight "this guy." the same for catniss everdeen. she's had things dropped from the sky for her in the hunger games. literally falling from the sky to get her out of situations other characters would have died. none of these characters were able to show that they could get out of their problems with their own devices.

i'm well aware max is resourceful. i like that we see he's figured things out on his own and doesnt have shit falling from the sky to help him get to the next part of the story. a fantastic example of his being resourceful; is picking up that bosun call in MMBT after jedadiah stole his caravan; to later use on blaster in thunderdome.

to us before that fight with blaster it was a stupid whistle; but he saw that it could be useful. well before even that moment in the movie when he picked it up.

So much information from the screening. So it's definitely a re-imagining of the Mad Max world. Shame, would have much preferred it to be it's own film, but one that would fit into the mythology of the other three. It seems that there's two points that completely rule this out. Firstly the interceptor is back then destroyed again within 5 minutes! Seems alittle crazy. Then there are flaskbacks with Max's daughter! Maybe it was his wife in the original script? Miller has obviously decided to set this apart from the originals. Maybe it was the recasting of Max that led to this? Maybe when the film is released, we might get a making of book (or art book) and Miller might explain the reasons. Just as I got used to the idea of a different Max, I now need to accept that it's an updated, different world!

Still can't forget Miller saying only a few years ago " People have been waiting a long time for Max's return..." Thunderdome's ending always felt like there was going to be a final film when Max would "come home"... But it's not to be...
